  • VI Remote App

I have a specific question that I would like to be addressed if possible. I will also post this question to Ilio, the US distributor for the Vienna Symphonic Library. Perhaps it can be answered directly by Paul Kopf who is doing a workshop at Westlake Audio in the USA next week on Jan. 30th.

Recently, I viewed a new Vienna SYNCHRON video where Paul displayed an iPad that adjusted MIDI CC's on that device in real-time.

I have now purchased my new iPad and am following the steps in the VI Remote App English Manual (dated from 2012). On Page 4 there are "iOS-specific instructions for iPad."

The step #8 says: "Click the Add Bookmark button on your browser and choose Add to Home Screen."  My new iPad does not have a function nor icon to complete this step.

I also cannot get further along with other MIDI CC sliders to show up on my iPad screen to make all of this great functionality that Paul displays happen in my studio.

Can someone please advise and be of service to me?

  • Hi Dominic,

You are right, this has changed in newer iOS versions. Click the "share" button (the rectangle with the arrow pointing up) and then choose to "add to homescreen".

If you don't get to see the Remote App interface (with the MIDI CC sliders) in your browser, please send me more information on the steps you take: support@vsl.co.at

Could it be that you are not entering the correct web address in your browser? Is your iPad in the same network as your computer?

    Best,
    Paul

  • To get the CC sliders to show up on the remote app you'll need to add the sliders to the basic view in VInstruments. It won't display the advanced view. You can do that by clicking on the N/A button at the bottom in VI  basic view and selecting the controller you want.  Save it as a preset to keep them for your new instruments.

  • Yes, I did find the Add to Home Screen icon as it was a bit hidden on the far right of a popup menu. I was able to continue from there and was successful in getting it to work properly.

As for the CC sliders, I was able to figure out that feature also by trial and error.

The iPad function is a powerful yet cool feature that others should take advantage of if they have not yet done so.

Thanks to both Paul and Tim for the assistance.
