I upgraded my Altiverb to version 5 today, and I found an html document in the installed folder that I'm sure will be of interest to people in this forum. It's also on their website here:
http://www.audioease.com/Pages/AltiverbAltiverb5Stagepositions.html
It offers a demonstration by Maarten Spruijt using VSL samples of how to place instruments on the stage to achieve realistic results. It sounds to me something like the MIR project (or what I know of it). Cleverly, you use multiple Altiverbs on different instruments with only the predelay active and the tail disabled. You use a master fader for the tail. All of Spruijt's settings are included in the presets.
Other intriguing things I discovered on quick glance: it has 5.1 reverbs. I haven't had a chance to explore it fully yet and probably won't get a chance for about two weeks (business trip).
I'm starting this thread to share ideas on how to use it. I'm especially interested in DTDM/DAE users (Patrick Wilson, Nick@madhatter, are you there?). It comes with an Audio Units version, too (as well as VST and MAS). I want to figure out a way to go what Spruijt did, only in 5.1.
Thanks,
John Davis
