  • eLicenser - too many applications are registered

I've been usign Vienna Instruments Special Edition for about 8 years and have been using Win 10 for more than a year. IN Sept of 2016 I discovered Vienna Instruments Pro and see that it's an improvement over Vienna Instruments, so I've been using it, but I still had Vienna Instruments installed.

Now all of a sudden I'm having problems with Vienna Instruments Pro coexisting wiht Vienna Instruments. I keep  getting this error

    elicenser control error -

application vienna instruments pro has caused the folowing error

    too many applications are registered

    options click ok to abort

hit ok and the same window keeps popping up no matter how many times you hit ok

I've updated elicenser, Vienna Instruments Pro  and Vienna Instruments and still have the problem.

I've tried many thigns to fix this and I'm baffled. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Hi Gerry,

Are you using any other software that is using eLicenser as a copy protection, like Cubase? Maybe also the SofteLicenser?

  • No other eLicenser. I have a separate dongle for Ivory piano, but I haven’t updated or made any changes to it in a long time. I don’t’ think it’s eLicenser. Recently I had a dongle in for Waves VST plugins. I hadn't used it a a long time  and then found that I could not use it and instead save the dongle info on my computer, so the Waves dongle is now disconnected and I think it uses PACE.. I wonder if my Vienna dongle has gotten corrupted while working with the Waves dongle. What's the best way to erase all the data on it and redo the dongle?

By your response it appears that I should be able to use Vienna Instruments VST software and Vienna Instruments Pro VST software without getting this error. Right? In other words there shouldn’t be a restriction on any software I download from My VSL? And I don’t’ need to re-register. Right?

Right now I can open Vienna Instruments Pro standalone and get the same error message. In all my years of using VSL, I’ve never encountered anything like this, so thank you and let me know your thoughts.

  • What happens when you open the eLicenser application and run the sync and maintnenace routine?

It always runs the maintnenace routine by default at startup and does just fine. Everything looks in order in there and I installed the latest eLicenser.

  • Hello Gerry,

Yes, you should be able to run VI and VI PRO side by side, no troubles there.

I checked your eLicenser key => looks good, from my perspective.

Does this also happen after a restart?

    Best,
    Paul

yes many restarts. What should I try next?

  • Hi Gerry,

Hm. I would uninstall all components including the eLCC, restart and install them again.

Which other programs are running when you get this error? Any eLicenser-protected software?

You can also contact me at support@vsl.co.at, maybe with some screenshots of the processes listed in the Windows Task Manager, maybe I can find out more this way.

I'm using Sonar Platinum, but it get the message even wehn I run the standalone VSL Pro with out Sonar running. I did reinatll all of that but I did't uninstall or reboot. What about me redoing the dongle, wiping it clean. Is it that hard to do that?

  • Hi Gerry,

The dongle should be fine, I think this is rather a software problem.

Uninstall, reinstall and reboot is what I would do right now.

If you have no licenses stored on your soft eLicenser, you can erase it (that could also help):

Delete the file "SeLicenser.sel" in "C:\ProgramData\Syncrosoft\"

=> The "ProgramData" - folder is a hidden system folder, make sure that you see it: Organize => Folder and Search Options => "View" Tab.

Screenshots sent to support@vsl.co.at will also help, maybe I can see something.

    Best,
    Paul

You're not using the same key from 8 years ago are you?

Although I think Paul is on the right track with his "software problem" diagnosis.  I would highly suggest you get another key if it is 8 years old.

Again, I think Paul's on the right track but one thing I've noticed is strange error messages recuring with elderly dongles. And 8 years old would be like one foot in the grave for a dongle.

Yes this is the same dongle from 8 years ago, if Vienna was using a dongle back then. I do have another USB dongle I can use unless I have to buy a special dongle from VSL. I removed the dongle and put it in another computer and saw that it installed an eLicenser very quickly and the dongle didn't' show up as something I could see the files even in computer management.

I'll try Paul's suggestion of uninstalling and deleting those files he mentioned and reinstalling. I assume I'll put the dongle back in and install eLicenser 1st, then Vienna Instruments and then Vienna Instruments Pro. If that doesn’t work then it's new dongle time I suppose.

Hey Paul I removed my dongle, uninstalled all, rebooted and reinstalled, rebooted. Inserted the dongle, and installed all 3. Opened Sonar Platinum it go stuck on the VST scan of ViennaPro.dll and I got the error of too many registrations. I'm sending that error message PNG to you.

I then tried to open VSL Pro and for an error could not find the license for VSL pro. I'm sending you the PNG for that message and a PNG of Task manager right after it happened.

Nothing was in  "C:\ProgramData\Syncrosoft\" before I uninstalled.

Let me know what to try next - thanks

  • Hi Gerry,

If you cannot see the licenses in the eLicenser Control Center, then the key might be broken.

Please contact us directly at support@vsl.co.at, and don't throw the key away (you will send it in, so we can check, and then deal with the replacement licenses).

    Best,
    Paul

Try again, I removed the dongle for a while and just put in back in and did the reinstalls. Earlier you said the dongle was ok - maybe it's because I was doing the reinstall.  I just sent you an email too

    thanks for all your help,
