  • Considering Moving Libraries

I have found that my 7,200 RPM Library drive rated at a sequential read speed of greater than 300 MB/sec is actually doing random reads at about 24. MB/Sec. My SSD OS drive is much faster and has more then 700 GB available. What do you think about moving the VSL library files? Do you eye any problems in this idea? Thanks.

    Hi CShorte,

You can definitely move your library. After you have moved it, please open the Directory Manager (find it in "Applications" (OS X) or "All Programs" (Win) => then "Vienna Instruments").

Remove all folders - then add all sample content again by drag and drop from your Finder/Explorer.

More information about how the Directory Manager works can be found in the video "How to use the Directory Manager".

And as you are working with Vienna Instruments PRO, don´t forget to lower the Preload Size in the Directory Manager, this will speed up your loading time to up to 10 times faster, while using only 1/10th of the RAM you needed with your slow drive.

    Best,
    Paul
