  • Recording techniques

Hi, does anyone know what compression (if any) is used during the recording of the samples?

  • Just an educated guess here but...

VSL records their samples pretty much bare naked in their natural state.  Compression would compromise the dynamics of certain samples so my guess is, and this is just a guess, they don't use compression when recording samples.

I think the key to recording samples is how you record them; what mics were used, positioning, etc.

  • That's what I was hoping - too many samples these days are over compressed to make them easy to record tracks with. It would be nice to think VSL use no compression at all to allow the full dynamics of the instruments be heard. Thanks for your reply..:)
