  • Chamber Strings Question

I just added the Chamber Strings 1 full package to my VSL library.  I listened to the Chamber Strings 1 demo and was very impressed with the sounds.  I've already been using VSL and am familiar with the mechanics of adding patches to the player.

My question is if there are suggestions on assembling particular patches from the Chamber Strings 1 library to more closely emulate the types of sounds heard in the demo.  I'm not interested in taking the spendy VSL training at this time.  I think my question may have more to do with how to make appropriate selections from the patches.    I've experimented with a few patches and am not getting anything close to the sounds heard on the demo.  I've also looked at the manual and have not found anything yet that would help with my question.

Any suggestions on how to proceed with this?

    Hi pacificm

I don't know which demo you heard but a lot of those demos are produced by me. It was important in 2004,5,6 to show the world how real samples of VSL can sound and not to demonstrate one single library.

So if you want to hear the pure sound of the Chamberstrings you need to listen to the demos of Christian Kardeis (called Chamber Violins, Chamber... etc.)

I personally often combined the chamber articulations with the same of the solo library. (Holbersuite, BWV 541)

This means: I produced the music twice. Once with chambers and once with the Solos. Then I mixed and balanced both sounds to my taste. BTW, the Solo Strings are also well for combining with all other String Libraries.

Unfortunately today are all the original comments no more coming - which we producers always added at that time - with the demos. So you are no more able to see which Libraries are used with the demos. So I added two of those info sheets below.

For getting a closer sound to my demo sounds I suggest just to use a little bit of a reverb of your DAW (Algo or Convolution). If you are using MIR reduce the dry/wet ration to not more than 25%-30% wet. Keep in mind that we hadn't MIR at that time I often used GIGA-Pulse - a Convolution Reverb which offered several fixed positions in the room. I also used an earlier version of Altiverb and also the Convoluten Reverb of MAGIX. But always not with a lot of wet-%.

Hope this clears up the situation about the demos of the Chambers - at least the one around my demos.

I wish you a lot of success with the Chamber Strings - still a nice sounding Libray for getting great results.
