Multiport Midi Audio Unit Extension AU v3
There is something new on the horizon for Mac DAW users. Apple just announced the new AU v3/ Audio Unit Extension. One major benefit if implemented: AU plugins can run in its own process outside the host. That means if the AU crashes (Hi Kontakt!) the host keeps running. Developers can update their existing v2 if they want otherwise they can bridge the v2. AU v3 will be compatible with v2 hosts until updated. For anyone who is interested to skim through the video should take a look here: Nerdtalk Time. https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2015/?id=508 I think 2 factors may be of great relevance at least to me. 1 Own process handling outside the host 2 Multiport Midi connection (VEP). As Doug Wyatt notes (around 46min in) that v2 of the Audio Units allowed only 1x16ch Midi Cable the v3 of the Audio Unit API allows 256x16ch Midi Cables!!! @Martin can you confirm once the API descriptions are released that this is possible? Another fact: AU units sold/downloaded via the APP store can get updated in one place. Here are the Keynote Slides the guys used on stage http://devstreaming.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2015/508691kyzp/508/508_audio_unit_extensions.pdf?dl=1

@Martin can you confirm once the API descriptions are released that this is possible?I just downloaded the 10.11 SDK to have a look at this, and it indeed shows support for multiple midi "cables". Hopefully at some point in the future Logic will also implement this.
Cheers

I think the scripter solution for Region/track based Automation is the only solution so far.
Or the solution I have develop : Program Changes to Articulation Change
But it is NOT THE SOLUTION
Just cross finger ; there is a new version of Logic, that will have Multiports, comming soon, let's hope this version will have more !

Hello everyone
Would be interested too in any news on Logic and AU3 implementation.
So far the last 2 updates didn't show any news of something like this.
But I thin a LOT of people are waiting for this to happen. I'm not sure this is a "priority" for Apple though....
Best to all of you

Looking forward.

I use Note Event Channel Change via key commands to change articulations or the oldschool one articulation per track. I dont like the automation lane articulation change method as it is not bound to notes. So if you move notes the automation data doesnt move with it.

Well, Logic v10.3.1 is here, and the release notes indicate that AUv3 with multi-port MIDI is now implemented!
Hooray!
Any news or schedule for adding support for this feature in VEPro v6?
Waiting anxiously....
