VE solo strings with Finale 2014

Hello Yishai!
A score or MIDI file normally doesn't sound good by itself, just because you use good samples. The playback has to be fine-tuned (articulattions, dynamics, note lengths, starting positions, mix, ...).
As a first step you might want to try the Finale Human Playback Preferences for the Special Edition we provide. These settings take care of automatic articulation changes according to your notation marks.

Thanks Andi,
I am always using Human Playback in Finale. I have Finale 2014 and never found something for VE (In Instrument technique) The point is that when I Compere a single note directly from VE virtual keyboard, the sound is much better than from the score. Could you think of the reason?

Hello Yishai!
I don't understand what you mean with "never found something for VE (In Instrument technique)". So you weren't able to load the Human Playback Preferences for the Special Edition? Please follow the guideline in the readme file that comes with the Human Playback prefernces download for Finale 2014 in order to get these settings available for your projects.
Best,
Andi

Hello Andi,
I have it, including Preferences. Is it possible I have it (Use it) without download it in the first place?
However, in my composition I need the freedom to enhance the sound, articulations, dencity... etc and the souind of the VSL demo, say violin, is much better when I write it in finale (Only 1 whole note) and playback via VSL . So, I believe it has nothing to do with HP. Do you have any idea in regards,
Best regards,
Yishai

Finale 2014 doesn't come with our Human Playback Preferences. So the only way to get these settings to Finale is by opening a file with included Human Playback Preferences for the VSL Special Edition.
In addition to the automatic articulation changes triggered by Finale with help of the Human Playback Preferences, you might want to trigger some articulation changes manually. This can be done with help of the keyswitch dump file we provide. This file can be downloaded at the same location as the Human Playback Preferences.

You can load the file from anywhere you want. The default paths for Finale 2014 Library files are as follows:
Windows:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 2014\Libraries
Mac OS:
Users/username/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 2014/Libraries
Since Mac OS X 10.7 the Users/username/Library folder is hidden by default. To get access, go to the folder Users/username. Then choose Go/Go to folder and enter "Library"

I'm using Sibelius 7.5 to trigger VSL Solo Strings 1, VEP, and VIP. I'm a little bit confused about these two things. I've read that if the checkbox is ticked, it'll ignore all velocity info that accompanies a midi note, which I don't want to happen (I have midi CC messages as hidden txt in the score), so I should leave the box un-ticked, correct?
If that box is un-ticked, will velocity x-fade still be in effect for humanization? During playback, I see the fader moving up and down, so I'm assuming it's working?
Thanks for the help!

I guess I made correctly and moved the downloaded VSL Keyswitch Dump.lib to its place: ...AppData/Roaming/Makemusic/Finale 2014
What I see is that only partial articulations are working. These are the first 9 in the Articulations' chart in Finale. In other words; by-passing the VSL setup: say; e.g. in only Legato Strings in VSL, these 9 are by-passing and do the job. Is it OK and what I should expect?

Hello Yishai!
I'm sorry to say that I don't understand your question. If you want to, you can send your score to support@vsl.co.at and I will take a look at it. Please try to rephrase your problem and tell me the exact unabbreviated path where you have copied the keyswitch dump file. Please also let me know if you are using the Human Playback Preferences for the Special Edition.
Best regards,

Hi Andy, This is the whole point: (a) What is the indication I have in Finale that VSL Human Playback is working? (b) What should I SEE in Finale, indicating VSL Human Playback is working? I need answer for only one of the question - a, or b.
(The attached immage is the articulation chart of the FINALE, The 1st 9th (1 to 9) are well influenced the VSL strings)
Thanks

OK, I understand that nothing is seen when articulation of VSL works (in Finale). The only indication is what I hear. Isn't it?

The dump file is a library you have to import (I believe from the file menu). It will add another category to your text expressions. It contains a bunch of text expressions that are "hidden" and appear grey. It is clear as to what they are KS for keyswitches (moving horizontally through a matrix) and CC1 for moving veritcally through a matrix.
Human playback is something else and can only be seen if you've followed the directions included with that file. You have to choose the VSL Playback options in the Human Playback Preferences. But you can only do that if you've imported the preferences as outlined in the instructions.
