This is an interesting and worthwhile conversation...how we translate whatever real world composing and/or orchestration skills we have into the 'faux' world of samples.
I like William's ideas, which if I read them correctly, essentially say - forget all that. The sampled orchestra is a beast unto itself...capable of creating stuff we probably couldn't with a live orchestra.
On the other hand, the real world of music for hire - or our own tastes - often ask for that time-honored live orchestral sound, which VSL has brought us so much closer to. How we can accomplish that better and faster is ALWAYS worth discussing.
There are some pretty smart folks that hang out here. I've picked up new ways of thinking about things. What could be cooler than that?
