  • Understanding 32 bit and 64 bit limitation.

HI, I had some queries regaring 32 bit plugin adn 64 bit plugin which I hope to get some light.

My master PC is 64 bit quad core with 8 GB RAM with Pro tools 11 ( a 64 bit application)

    Here is my understanding

A 32 bit plugin can be open in VEP 32 bit inside 64 bit Pro tools 11 and that means this plugin by itself can only use upto 3.5 GB of RAM. For Example a 32 bit Stylux can use th3 3 GB limit of RAM even though it is inside Pro tools 11

A 64 bit plugin inside 64 bit VEP 5 running inside Pro tools 11 ca uses unlimited RAM.

My question is even if I have some 32 bit application like Omnisphere and some 64 bit plugin like Kontakt, I will be able to use all of my 8 GB RAM.

IS VEP 32 bit hosting a 32 bit plugin can still make use of more than 4 GM RAM.

I am sorry if I sounded more confused but I really need to make use of whatever my little RAM I have got ( 8 GB).

In a nutshell, Can I happly use 32 bit Specrtasonic stuff and 64 bit Kontat in VEP pro side by side assuming it will use all my 8 GM RAM ?

  • Hi krisvija,

Each application has its RAM limits.
One VE PRO 32 bit Server can host up to 3 GB (usually a bit lower) RAM.
Your 32 bit DAW can host up to 3 GB.
64 bit applications can use unlimited RAM.

    Does that help?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Thanks Paul,

    So does that mean,

I open both 32 Bit server (For Omnisphere/Stylus) and 64 bit server (Kontakt) , all of my 8 GB ram can be utilized

32 Bit server (For Omnisphere/Stylus) --till 3 GB

    64 bit server (Kontakt) -- > Remainign 5 GB of8GB.

    Is my understanding correct ?

On the other note, I really struguling to find any information on route multi channel of Omnisphere (only one instance) inside  VEP.I do not want to create more then one instance but want to route the different channle to different channle in Pro tools 11

I dont want to open multiple instance of Omni and want tuse all its 8 channels but not getting the output routed to Pro tools.

I could see lot os tutorial for Logic and Cubase but Pro tools tutorials are very limited.

    Hi,

    Your understanding is correct.

Please check out the chapter on multi-timbral instruments in the VEPRO 5 manual (page 62), and the ROUTING chapter at the end of the VE PRO 5 Manual (specifically for Pro Tools).

    => Software Manuals

    Best,
    Paul
