I'm wondering if Native Instruments' "The Finger" (an audio effects instrument) is playable through a keyboard rather than a midi controller like the Korg Nano Kontrol.
I've got a host and slave machine networked via VEP. The Finger came with Komplete 9, which I loaded onto my slave machine, not the machine where my DAW is. The slave machine (a PC) is much newer and more powerful than my DAW machine - a Mac that is several years old and doesn't have so much space on it.
So far (after a lot of experimenting), I've kinda got the Finger working on this system. Basically, I send audio (either from an audio track or virtual instrument) to an input track in VEP. This input track has the Finger as an insert effect. Then I open the automation mapping, add a new automation mapping entry and select as the destination Input 1 / Effects / Reaktor 5 FX. Actually, I've been using the MIDI learn button to select the destination - whatever knob or button I want on the Finger. Then I use MIDI learn to select the source. The problem is that MIDI learn seems to only recognize sliders or knobs or buttons, but not actual keys on a midi keyboard. It would be a lot more fun to play the buttons on the Finger using a keyboard - the way it was intended. The knobs are easy enough to control through my Korg Nano Kontrol. I can also use the Nano Kontrol to control the buttons on the Finger, but it doesn't work as smoothly as a keyboard would.
Any thoughts on how I could get it to work on a keyboard?
Thanks!
My specs: host machine: Mac 10.6.8 with Digital Performer 7.24. Slave Machine: PC with Windows 7 Pro. VEP 5.2. Komplete 9.
