I'm currently working on a
set of 5 tango compositions (three of them valses in two versions - for
two pianos and a tango orchestra).
You can listen to the first two of these here:
http://www.digital-orchestra-production.com/en/demos/tangos/index.html
Un tango en tres fragmentos (A tango in three fragments) is scored for clarinet, french horn, bandoneon, piano, two violins, cello and double bass.
All instruments are VSL (Clarinet, Triple Horn, Solo Strings &
Vienna Imperial), except for the bandoneon, which is done with Eduardo
Tarilonte's wonderful Accordeons library.
For this piece I've used the Sage Gateshead's Hall Two, a great sounding chamber music hall from RoomPack 4.
For the Valse I wanted to have an "old" piano sound, with a somewhat
"broken" overall production sound similar to that of an old vinyl
recording (minus the crackling). My favorite instrument for such
purposes is Galaxy Vintage D, a Steinway built in 1920 and still in use
in Hamburg's Bauer Studios.
For the spatial positioning I have "misused" the Maria Strassengel Venue, with results very much to my liking.
I hope you'll enjoy these.
Final note: The performance shaping, spatial positioning and mixing techniques used in these pieces are part and parcel of the Vienna Training Center,
the online learning platform for the professional use of VSL libraries
and software. Check the webpage and the announcement thread
