  • VEPRo 64 Bit or 32? Vst3 or Vst2? Confused

I just switched from Mac to PC and seem to have more "choices" regarding which versions of VEPro I use in Cubase. I could load the 32BIT VST3 version or the VST2 62 bit version (does a VST3 64 bit version exist?) Which one is better for my system? Running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit via Bootcamp on a Mac Pro 8 Core.

  • It all depends what you want to do.

    1. VST2 only allows 16 MIDI channels per instance (a bit like AU). However, Program changes work
    2. VST3 allows multiple ports per instance so you can get hundreds of MIDI channels per instance. However Program changes don't work.
    3. 32bit will allow loading of plugs that have no 64bit version, but you will be limited with the amount of RAM you can use
    4. 64bit allows virtually unlimited RAM, but you won't be able to load 32bit plugs.

  • The VST3 comes as both 64- and 32-bit but is not marked as such in Cubase.
