  • Orchestral Strings, Appassionata Strings, Dimension Strings (Cellos)

    A bit confused about the names. In what do they differ?For me, a string section is a string section. Or is it "once again" more leaning towards "epic" sounds, you know those Hollywood strings as EWQL has? I simply want the sound of the strings as in e.g. Symphony in D minor, Cesar Franck.

  •  Orchestral Strings are orchestral Strings, they approach the most common orchestral strings, by using 14 musicians in the violins, 10 in violas, et cetera. The Appassionata Strings are said to be the cinematic approach to the cinematic strings. They have a very lust and warmer sound, very bright in upper register and very mellow in the lower. I might be not the ideal person to tell you what Dimension Strings do since I don't own it but I heard their sound is perfect to be mixed with other VSL Libraries.

  • Hi Raymond,

    this page gives a good overview what the different sections are all about:

    -> http://www.vsl.co.at/en/211/442/344/314.vsl

    ... just click on the bold main menu entrances on the left, and you will see a short description of each.

    Dimension Instruments follow a completely new approach by recording each individual player _within_ a section, allowing for much more detail and vividness than with conventional ensemble recordings:

  • Thank you for the answers. Since I don't like "appassionata" sounds (as demo-ed) I think I will go for Dimension (when the budget allows me).
