    We had a lot of support regarding drop outs. And it always turned out that it was the onboard adapter Intel 82579V. After using a PCI or PCIe networkadapter everything worked fine. The intel 1000 Pro should be around 30$ or you just take a cheap Realtek network adapter.

    Thank you, Bernd. What I also found is:

    Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI-Express Network Adapter

    It is $31 (more affordable) but...it doesn't say "PRO". Any good?

    Sounds like the same setup as me then, I HAD to get the sabertooth as I also have an older PCI RME card I didn't want to upgrade. If the board has the features you want, and it does if you've selected it, then it's worth getting a decent PCIe network card IMO. Like you, I had to have Asus. The only other Asus board with a legacy PCI slot for your sound card I could find is the lowest model P9x79, but that only has 2 sata 6g ports which I don't consider enough. If I were you I would stick with the sabertooth and buy the network card, the RME works flawlessly with this board.

    yes, I'll stick with the Sabertooth and add the Intel PCI-E card as advised.

    Just curious: what video card do you have on? Ati or Nvidia? I just discovered that Cubase 7 doesn't like Ati (Amd)!!

    I'm more into ATI. But that is just personal taste and at beginning MIR had some problems with Nvidia. At the moment i'm using Cubase 7 and an ATI and had no problems so far. What are the problems with C7?

    I am using two of these

    So AMD which I have never had any problem with, the drivers have always been great and there has never been any DPC latency issues with AMD cards. This unfortunately can not be said for Nvidia in my experience! I've not upgraded to Cubase 7, but in 6.5 there hasn't been a problem. What issues are you having with Cubase 7?

    My present DAW is based on an ASUS P6T with i7 920 CPU, RME Multiface, 24GB Ram (still waiting for the new computer parts to arrive). I have an Radeon HD 5750/1GB feeding 3 HD monitors (one of them super-definition).

    It all worked fine in Cubase 6 but not good at all in Cubase 7.02: the moment I open the Video window, no matter on what monitor, graphics become very sluggish. Any other window (plugin, transport bar, markers, etc), when dragged across any screen, while the video window is open, had big latency in re-drawing itself. It looked VERY sluggish. Closing the video window would get everything back to normal. The re-drawing issues would not be apparent if an window is static - only when moved. Of course, this would not be a show stopper...but...unfortunately the same issue applied to the cursor as well! Now I had a problem. As soon as the Video window is up, the cursor, too, becomes jerky and this bothered me a lot while working in the editors.

    Of course I suspected Cubase to be the culprit and thought I had to wait for yet another update. Until I realized that while there were lots of complains on the Cubase forum, nobody mentioned this one.

    So - I installed C7 on an old laptop (with NVidia chipset) - worked perfectly.

    I installed the lasted ATI drivers, latest Win updates, latest Quicktime on my DAW - no success. I removed all but one monitor screen and lowered its resolution - to no avail.
    I took off an older NVIDIA 8500GT card from my Slave PC, installed it on the DAW - Perfect!!
    I borrowed a Zotak Geforce GT640 (NVidia based) from a friend - it worked perfectly with 2 monitors. I couldn't test with the third monitor though because of the stupid mini-HDMI port's location (couldn't plug the hdmi adapter). But again, with Radeon HD5750 I couldn't make it work even with a single monitor.

    I am not sure why the present configuration works with C6 but not with C7. Probably the latter uses a different video engine that requires certain instructions set that work better (for me) on a nvidia card.

    I don't know...I am probably going to order a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 650 (4 monitors capable) and see how it goes. It is also possible that once I receive the Sabertooth/i7 3939k and build the new DAW I'll realize that Radeon works fine with C7 too...

    Thought I would add for anyone reading with the same problems I had, my network cards came today, I installed them and now I get no clicks and pops at 32 samples, when 512 was problematic before. Excellent, money well spent! Get the Intel Gigabit Pro 1000 CT's!

    Certainly! I looked hard for a solution to this before posting, and noticed a lot of others have the same issue, and are either still unresolved, or they found a solution and didn't document it for the rest of us to see. Perhaps it might be a good idea to include some details of this issue with onboard LAN controllers in the official documentation for the product? My apologies if this is aready the case, but I was unable to find any help before posting my problem here.

    Hi, I have also just set up a PC slave for the first time. VEP has worked on master computer (mac pro) very well. PC slave is an i7- 3820 and MB is Gigabyte x79- UP4, 32 G ram. Ethernet cable going directly into LAN 2 port on Mac. I get pop/click/distortion trying to play one part on the slave unless I have the buffer set at 512 in Logic. I'm used to running at 128. My Lan adapter is intel 82579LM. Is there a problem with this adapter as well? Should I try installing a PCI lan card? I have been struggling with this for a week and just saw this post. Hope you can help. Richard

    I think all onboard adapters with the number 82579 have this issue. I would try it. Sounds like it is the same issue.

    I do not know how many different types of the 82579 are out there.

    Old thread but worth bumping...

    I recently upgraded my Master computer and started have all sorts of problems including stuttering and strange random short periods of silence.  I was using the onboard Intel 82579VM network adapter.  At first I though it was a combination of configuration settings on the 82579 (green settings, flow control, interrupt moderation etc) but nothing was consistent though.  For example, I could change a setting and everything would work perfectly but then on re-boot stuttering and gaps of silence would be back.  Some settings were even causing spikes in the ASIO meter in Cubase with projects using VEP but without anything playing. As soon as I whacked back in my old PCI Intel Pro GT 1000 NIC everything was as good as gold. (Although, now that I'm using an X79 chipset which is non native PCI, should I be using a PCIe NIC even though the PCI version seems fine?) (edit: sicne posting I've learned that the PCI slot on my X79 board is native after all)

    So thanks to Bernd and others for their helpful suggestions.  Much appreciated!
