Hi, I have a new notebook (Samsung with core i7 processor, 6 GB RAM)with windows 7, where I use Cubase 6 artists, Vienna Ensemble, Vienna Instruments and Vienna Suite. No other programs are active.I also configured the Norton Antivirus to make no background scans. Often, the programms work well. However, occasionally, then I use the same pieces of music that worked well before, there is severe noise (distortions, like broken sound) when I play the music, and the CPU goes from about 15% (which is normal on my machine) to 40% or even more than 50% of utilization. This is also the case when I stop and do not work any more on the song. The disturbancies are like „waves“. Sometimes, everything is OK for a few minutes. Then the CPU utilization goes up and after seconds or minutes returns to normal. I checked the situation with the Windows task manager to see whether there are any background services. I saw that except cubase and VSL only the “idle process” is active, all others showed 0 at the CPU. Else the CPU only moves from VSL and CUBASE; Normal values are 10%-15% for VSL and 5% -10% for CUBASE. As mentioned, suddenly, even with a song that used to work, the CPU jumps with VSL to 40% and more, also when no work is done on the song. Since yesterday there is one additional problem: Everything is OK, and the power consumption of CUBASE stands at about 15%; Suddenly the CPU power goes to 100% and the PC crashes. A friend suggested to me to use a different sound card. So I used Asio4all, but no change. Can the hardware be faulty? Is anybody familiar with this problem? Peter
