  • C.P.E BACH - Flute concerto Wq22 - 1st movement

Hi everybody, we are always at 18th century ... here is the first movement of one flute concerto of this wonderful son of J.S Bach (no matter if JS didn't like the music of his son ...). Performed with Chamber strings, solo strings, Flute and harpsichord. Enjoy ! Best. Philippe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcFTR3IiGso&feature=plcp

  • Hi Philippe,

thanks for posting this rendition. Another enjoyable performance and still enjoyng the journey back to the 18th century.

    Regards,

           Tom

  • Philippe, It sounds extremely good, great work!  The flute should be louder and closer in the mix I thought.   Maybe a few trills could be more defined as trills?   Or maybe they are just written as ornaments so that wouldn't apply.  Anyway the overall performance is very characteristic and Baroque in feel and sounds excellent.

  • W O W [8] Especially the accompaniment... Is this just MIR by the way, or a combination of things?

  •  I listened again and was impressed even more. It is very significant that this kind of performance is not just using the samples to get any orchestral sound you can, but a specific Baroque style.

I guess this used the Performance trills?  Actually those are probably best for this.  The only thing I did react to critically is I wanted the flute to sound like it was closer, a tiny bit louder and clearer, more defined and breathy maybe.  At around 1:10 it actually gets lost among the violins.  But that is a tiny thing - this is fabulous!   I think this is so good you must do all the concerto!

  • Nice!!! Very musical baroque-style performance, very enjoyable. Love the flute. Congratulations on a very good overall work!

  • Hi Tom, Errikos, Tom and Goran,

    thanks for your support.

@Errikos. I don't use MIR here [:$] but just Altiverb.

@William. All the trills and ornaments are "hand made". I have made a new mix, according to your comment about the flute (closer).  Is that was you was thinking about ? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZGpqJzalCE&feature=plcp

    Best.

    Philippe

  • This is probably irritating, though I do the same thing all the time with my own mixes.  This sounds exactly right in level, but a little too dry now for the flute.  Perhaps the original level of reverb was right and it is only the loudness that seemed too low.
