  • Please help me understand some things....

I am on the verge of purchasing a new computer and getting into the VSL world as well.

I am used to working in Propellerhead Reason where everything is very simple and straightforward, easy to comprehend for my little pea brain.

I understand that Reason will not "host" VSL, so I have purchased Cubase 5, which I will be using to host the VSL stuff.

I will be running on just one computer. Primarily I will be doing small ensemble stuff, especially string quartets, trios, and small instrument ensembles. I have no plans to make large orchestral works at this time.

It seems a no brainer to me to get Vienna Instruments Pro, so I will.

Vienna Suite, Ensemble Pro5, and MIR ?   What would these give me that I cannot get from Cubase?  Can anyone give me some reasons to spend the money on any or all of these? I suppose if I did get into MIR, it would be MIR-24, does that work the same with VEpro5?

Mainly, I am just looking for some honest feedback about the advantages or the "need" to purchase VEpro5, Vienna Suite, and MIR(24).

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration in helping me to understand this stuff.

  • Greetings from Hollywood, As VSL recommends, I would use the (free) Vienna Instruments Player before you go Pro. There is no "NEED" to purchase Suite, Ensemble Pro 5, or MIR PRO 24, unless the notion that these products are clearly the best at what they do, appeals to you. Something drove you to VSL, I imagine it's the quality. 1) Suite for example is a suite of wonderful plugins tailored to YOUR Vienna Instruments Library. 2) Ensemble Pro 5 is probably the worlds best software mixing solution and you can't use MIR without it. 3) MIR PRO or 24 is absolutely ground breaking. Gone are the days of generic concert halls, and cathedrals that all sound the same and come with ANY DAW. MIR gives you the ability to virtually drop your orchestra, large or small, into the venue of your choice. Place your musicians EXACTLY where you want theme. Assign playing styles. Strings for example can be played: Pure Air Silk Bite Warm or Distant MIR gives you virtual microphones about 30 to choose from. Not only can you place 2 of these in your venue of choice, you can place them ANYWHERE you'd like. Place your Mic At the Conductors position The 3rd Row The 7th Row The 15th Row The Balcony Or, how about outside the room. If you enjoy tinkering with things these Mics are editable. You can alter the way they listen. They can pick up sound the way you want them to. I could go on and on, but from one newbie to another, you really should try the free demos, then decide. P/S: I'm a Mac guy but that Rok Box your buying... (SWEET) Regards, Mike B.
