  • RIP Joel Goldsmith

Fellow composers, we have lost another terrific composer today. The sadest thing possibly being that Joel was not well known as a composer (as a household name) but leaves an impressive body of work of which quality equals that of his late father Jerry. He was such a down to earth guy who loved talking techy things with other musicians and I think he simply refused to work on projects that weren't fun. He did say that he didn't like the hollywood movie system and was very much content to work in inde TV (Stargate etc.)

I'm really very glad I had the chance to interview and talk with him back in 2008. He shared with me anecdotes for working with his father, and the things he learned from him. When me interview was finished he was so kind as to send me a personal thankyou telling me that he generally hates giving interviews, but that he and I had a great conversation and he spoke with me for 2 hours (He had originally planned it as 30 mins).

Must admit I'm pretty sad over his passing. Listening to "Stargate: Ark of Truth" tonight in rememberance of Joel. I don't think there's any higher honour one can do for an artist than simply appreciate and enjoy their work and keep it alive.

    Thanks for reading.

  • That is always a great shame when anyone dies at 54 of illness.

  • I remember the interview you had with Joel very well Hetoreyn.  I remember thinking while I was listening to it, how open and freely he was willing to discuss moving up the ranks in the movie/TV industry and working with his father.  It was an interview that I'll never forget.  May he rest in peace.....
