  • "Herb's Teldex Presets" now available for MIR Pro!

    Dear MIR Pro Users,

the eagerly awaited adaption of "Herb's Teldex Presets" for MIR Pro is now available in your User Area:

    -> http://www.vsl.co.at/en/68/428/1957/1622.htm

It comes in two sizes: Large Orchestra, and a smaller Special Edition-compatible setup.

Both setups are available in two flavours:  One for standard Vienna Instruments, and a dedictated VI Pro 2 version with preloaded (but inactivated) Presets.

... but read yourself what Herb has to say about them:

    Dear MIR Pro users,

You may have heard and seen Teldex Studio Berlin for Vienna MIR Pro already. Being an important part of our RoomPack 2 – Studios & Soundstages, this world-famous studio offers the ideal acoustic environment for all kinds of contemporary orchestral music production.

Taking the release of Vienna MIR Pro as an opportunity, I would like to share my personal "orchestral starting points" for this prestigious soundstage with you. One is a full-blown setup with about 50 Vienna Instruments for large symphonic arrangements, which in real life would amount to around 80 players. The second one is meant to be used with smaller ensembles; it uses 32 Vienna Instruments, which makes it a good choice for Vienna Special Edition users, too.

Both presets are based on examples of typical orchestral recording sessions supplied by the highly experienced, award-winning Teldex Studio staff themselves (see their exemplary session layout on the next page). All Icons are pre-positioned, levelled, labelled and assigned to Groups. Many of them make use of MIR's unique Character Presets. The presets come in two versions. One uses the standard Vienna Instrument player that comes for free with our sample libraries. The other one makes use of the advanced feature of our brand-new Vienna Instruments Pro 2.

In case of the standard Vienna Instruments, none of the players has any sample data loaded. This is done on purpose: Personally, I tend to look at these presets as an orchestra which has already taken seat, but no scores yet on the music stands in front of the players. Depending on the task at hand I individually load selected Matrices into the Vienna Instruments I’m planning to use. The beauty of this is that loading times are kept at a bare minimum. RAM usage is no issue either, as the number of loaded samples is totally scalable depending on the system's capabilities. Apart from that, these presets can be used with a diverse set of VSL products, be it the Special Editions, Download Libraries or DVD Collections, Standard or Extended content.

Vienna Instruments Pro 2 allows for a greatly enhanced version of this concept: Here, the instruments have all the typical articulations already assigned – but all Matrix-cells are saved in their “disabled” state, meaning that all data are available according to individual needs at a simple mouse-click, while no RAM is consumed until the sample data actually are loaded. In other words – every MIR Pro user is empowered to generate her or his own personal orchestral starting points from these basic setups.

Of course, these presets don’t aspire to be an “instant mix”. Like me, you will always find yourself changing some volume settings here, adding a plug-in there, or moving one instrument to the other side, just because it fits in better with a certain arrangement. It's also worth mentioning that I decided to stick to the smaller Boesendorfer Imperial grand piano instead of the much more elaborated Vienna Imperial, mostly in order to avoid any “Missing Instrument” messages for users who don’t own the latter yet.

I hope you’ll enjoy making music in this wonderful virtual hall as much as I do.

    Yours sincerely,

Herb Tucmandl – Founder and Managing Director, VSL

Operating instructions: Copy the files with the extension VIFrame64 to an appropriate location on your hard-disk and open them from MIR Pro's file dialog like any other project. If you make any changes, don’t forget to save your results under a new filename in case you want to come back to the original Presets later.

This is what the Large Orchestra Preset will look like:

    ... and that's the SE-compatible setup:

    Enjoy! 😊

    Kind regards,

  • I don't know if it's just me, but instead of the images you obviously intended, I see this:

[MODERATOR'S EDIT: Picture of ImageShack's "Frozen Frog" removed for - uhm - better readability of this thread 8-) ...)

  • I figured it out...

I have to also be registered at ImageShack and logged in before I can see the pictures.

I created an ImageShack account and I see them now.

Maybe this will help others who are seeing only frozen frogs....  [;)]

  • Ooops!  [:O]  Sorry .... I will move the screenshots to our own server tomorrow.

(I hope you don't mind that I will delete the frozen frog then ... it's just soooooo ugly. ;-) ...)

  • Hi,

Is there a function to load samples in those presets, or do i have to do it manually ?

    Best Regards

  • Hi Olivier,

a right-click on an entrance of the Matrix List will open the context menu where you will find a command for enabling the whole Matrix. Alternatively you can also enable an individual Cell.

    It's described on p. 24 of the VI Pro 2 Manual -> http://dl.vsl.co.at/downloader.aspx?ID=7413

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Dietz,

    Thanks for your answer !!!

    Best Regards

  • Hi Dietz,

Do you have a sense of whether the Teldex large ensemble preset will run on a Mac Pro 2.66 ghz (8-core, 32GB ram), together with a DAW (DP 7 or Logic 8)?

  • Hi,

I just replied to your question in this thread: -> http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/t/30403.aspx

    Kind regards,

  • Hello Dietz

I have ask you a few questions why dont you answer to my questions ! are you angry with me ?

  • Cyril, Marnix from VSL Support already asked you to get in contact with him. He has a Logic-centered setup at his disposal and will hopefully be able guide you step by step through the issues you seem to encounter.

    ... please, don't hi-jack threads with off-topic messages. Thanks!

    Regards,

  • Hello Dietz and Marnix

On  my side I have been testing solutions and I have improvements and the problem is well encircle

    - The engine is not fast enought to treat eight notes at 54 bpm !!! or is missing end of notes

I have ask you both 3 basic question :

    • Is VE using CPU power for a VI that is not used ?
    • If I mute a VI does it uses power too ?
    • From your experience what is the max number of VI used should I get on my Macpro

why cant I get an aswer ? is is secret ?
So it is your fault if I have hyjacked this discussion

  • Cyril, I know it is always VSL's fault in your eyes.

Please read this thread: -> http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/t/30702.aspx

    TIA,

  • Is there anyone, who tried these presets, please? How does it sounds?

I have no ready-made demo at hand, but Jay Bacal used a similar setup to Herb's "Full Orchestra" in his version of Star Wars' "Main Theme". Jay used the Teldex Studio in its "wide" orientation, but the sonic signature is more or less the same.
