  • Vienna Instruments & Sibelius - Getting connected

Hey, i am getting desperated cuz i am trying since two days connecting my sibelius 6 first with vienna instruments. i was doing the same procedure as the video here provides, but, there is a problem. the video told me to download the sound set files, but i having any sound sets to download in my user area under needfull things. the only thing i can get is the house style and not as the video provides, the sound sets of the different instruments. guess i am stupid or is it an error which brings the video? i am absolutely new in this material and using vienna the first time. i am using the vienna special edition on dvd standard libary, vienna ensemble and sibelius 6 first... is there any help?
    thank you

    edit:

okay, i got that i don't need any other sound set files as Sound Set Vienna Ensemble Special Edition (Sibelius 5.2 or higher). well i copied that included xml-file to the sibelius sound folder and copied the vienna symphonic library, lib in the house style folder... but it doesn't work... in my playback devices on sibelius i will only find this entry: microsoft gs waveable synth nothing else...

    edit
now i am able to load the instruments in vienna ensemble, connected to my keyboard and now i am able to hear the vienna instruments by playing my keyboard... but still have the problems, getting connected in sibelius...

  • Hi Alex!

Great, that you are already making progress. What exactly do you mean with you have problems getting connected in Sibelius?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Andi, i already got connected, i found that ve special edition.xml to copy in my sibelius folder. know i got an entry in my sibelius devices, called VE Special Edition and it works :)

    But (!) :)

This result isn't really satisfying in strings, because violins etc. swallow semiquaver and eighth notes, they are really muted and only develope with crotchets or longer notes. And, if i have dynamics like staccato or tenuto, they are much more louder than the normal notes. Why that, what can i do to get a better articulation?

    kind regards
    Alexander

  • Hello Alex!

For a better dynamic behaviour I recommend using Velocity XFade on all string, woodwind and brass instruments. How you set up your Vienna Instruments with Velocity XFade turned on for Sibelius is explained in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual on page 16.
If some articulations like staccato are too loud for you, you can turn them down in the Vienna Instruments/Control Edit/Edit Cell window.

    Best regards,
    Andi
