Getting Sibelius and Vienna Ensemble to play nice together
I cannot get my solo violin to trill. I have created the trill line in Sibelius, but it will not play back with the Vienna Ensemble Plus (with Sibelius Sounds it plays back so I have created it correctly from that end). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. OSX 10.6.6 Sibelius 6.2 and Vienna Ensemble Plus.

Hello Steve!
Trills are not included in the Special Edition. You might be interested in the Special Edition PLUS. Several additional articulations like trills, fortepiano, col legno, harmonics, ponticello and others are included there. All details can be found here:
http://www.vsl.co.at/en/211/261/314/1606/1278.htmNevertheless a trill should be performed by Sibelius using the sustain samples or the legato samples, if you additionally create a slur. Do all other articulations switch correctly?
Please notice, that articulations for solo strings will only change correctly, when you notate them on a solo strings (Solo Violin, Solo Viola, ...) staff. If you are not sure, if you have maybe ensemble staves in your score, you can try to add a Solo Violin staff, cut the content of the old staff and paste it to the new one.
By the way. There is no Vienna Ensemble Plus. As you haven't Vienna Ensemble Pro registered, I assume you are talking about Vienna Ensemble.

Many thanks. I do own the Special Edition Plus, but was never able to get trills to work. However I have recently installed Solo Strings I + II and the trills definitely work now! However when I first installed it I was able to load a full string quartet. After finishing several recordings, something has happened where I can no longer load more than three instruments at once. A fourth instrument crashes VE. I tried restarting the computer thinking maybe something was getting stored in RAM and clogging it up, but to no avail. Even with a fresh start I can suddenly no longer load more than three instruments at a time. Any ideas what happened? I'm on an iMac Core 2 Duo, 1 TB hard drive, 3.06 GHz Processor, 4 GB RAM.

Hello Steve!
Please be aware, that the presets for the Solo Strings need lots of RAM and you might be overloading your RAM. How much you can load depends also on your MacOS version. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think only OS X 10.6 is fully 64-bit compatible and will allow you to use more than 3 GB with one application.
To save some RAM, you could load some of the presets, that don't need as much RAM. If you don't need con sordino strings in a score, you can load the Sib_SoloStr_L2 presets instead of the Sib_SoloStr_L2+II presets.
You might also use the Learn/Optimize feature of Vienna Instruments.Best regards,

I am on OS X 10.6. It was definitely a RAM overload, but I was confused by why at first I could load a quartet and later I couldn't, but I think I may see what is going on - can you confirm for me my suspicion: The quartet I was able to load was V1,V2,Va,Cello. I was unable to load Vn,Va,Cello, Bass. Is it true that having two violins uses considerably less RAM than one violin and one viola? It seems so and this would explain my troubles. "To save some RAM, you could load some of the presets, that don't need as much RAM. If you don't need con sordino strings in a score, you can load the Sib_SoloStr_L2 presets instead of the Sib_SoloStr_L2+II presets." - Thanks for this tip! Steve
