  • Vienna Intruments Pro memory usage

So I think the main thing that would keep me from purchasing Vienna Instruments Pro is how much memory one empty instance uses. For me it's 110-120 mb. I'm using Vienna Special Edition and that wasted memory is quite precious to me. I love the features of VE Pro but I can't afford to have that much memory going to 'waste'. Am I the only one having this issue? Vienna Instruments uses less than half the memory so for now I'll stick with that. I'm hoping maybe there's a solution to this besides 'buy more memory'. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Only the first instance will use a bit of memory. Every instance added after this - will use far less RAM. Also remember that VI Pro has 128 voices polyphony be default, where VI only has 64. This will add some megabytes per instance.

  • Hmm, you're right about stacking instances, but when I compare 16 empty instances of Pro with 16 empty instances of the original Vienna Instruments the difference is about 500mb... That seems a little crazy to me, is it possibly my DAW? I'm using FL Studio 9.8

Would using VE or VE Pro maybe reduce the 'wasted memory'?

  • Have you tried reducing the polyphony in each instance of VI Pro? In my template, going back to 64 voices, for most instruments, gave me well over an extra GB free.

  • Oh wow, that sure made a big difference! Thank you for your help! That totally changes my mind about not wanting to purchase.

  • I don't know how FL Studio handles plugin guis, but using VI Pro in VE/VEPro will significantly reduce any graphics overhead, since we have made quite some optimizations for VEPro.
