Yes I did. Sibelius does recognize Vienna Instruments, which are in the same folder - and also some other plugins.
-
It's really odd. I did so (as you recommended), with no effect. Could it have something to do with 32-Bit and 64-Bit versions - being Sibelius a 32-bit-software? Everything works fine on my laptop (32-bit).
-
Well, it could. As you have noticed yourself, Sibelius is a 32-bit application and can only read 32-bit plugins. So you need the Vienna Ensemble.dll file in your VST Plugins folder. Sibelius can't read the Vienna Ensemble x64.dll file. Nevertheless you can connect to the 64-bit service, also with the 32-bit plugin. Just start Vienna Ensemble Service (64-bit) before starting Sibelius.

I've tried everything you recommended, even re-installing Sibelius. But with no effect... It simply won't work. Maybe Gremlins? Starting VE before Sibelius leads to the strange effect that Sibelius does not find any plugin at all.
-
I'm just guessing now. Did you copy the Vienna Ensemble.dll file after installation? If yes, I recommend uninstalling Vienna Ensemble and deleting all copies of Vienna Ensemble.dll that are left on your computer. Then reinstall Vienna Ensemble. Watch out for the directory, where you install the plugin. Don't copy Vienna Ensemble.dll, but set up the directory, where you have installed it in the Sibelius/Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options/VST Plugin folder.
I hope this helps.

I did that before, but none of this seemed to help. The strange thing is: we know, that under normal circumstances VE and Sibelius 6 work seamlessly together. Sibelius 5 does have no problem finding VE although. Hmmm... I'm at my wits end! ;-)

OK - I gave up: After a complete re-install of Windows everything works fine now... Strange. Thanks for your help!

It's only from this conversation that I've discovered Sibelius can not read the x64.dll VST's - I can only see x64.dll files in the VST2 folder (default from Steinberg) after installing Special edition - so how may I find VST's that Sib. can read?

Hello Wolfgang!
Sibelius 6 is in 32-bit. Sibelius 7 is installed in a 32-bit and in a 64-bit version.
During installation of Vienna Ensemble you can choose directories for installing the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions separately. If you don't remember, where you have installed the 32-bit version, you can do a search for the file "Vienna Ensemble.dll".
Best regards,
Andi
