  • Well it needs to be implemented by the VI / VI-Pro ...

I will not upgrade for sure befor this is not available from VSL *G*

  • Hi Pro-Arte and Gabriel!

I made some tests with Cubase 6/VST Expression and our collections. Here are my impressions.

You can use the Expression Maps you find in your User Area with Cubase 5 and Cubase 6 the same way. Some things have been improved.
    - You can use a MIDI controller (CC) that's used in an Expression Map live during playback or recording. That was not possible before.
    - If you press one of the Remote Keys of the active Expression Map during recording, the according articulation gets an entry on the articulation lane.
    - Articulation changes seem to work more stable.
    - Dynamic mapping is a cool new feature that works without the need for any implementation from our side.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Gabriel!

Currently you can't use Note Expression with the Vienna Instruments (or VI Pro).

  •  Thank You for the answers !!! What is note expression ??? Is the new feature like to do what Notion have for years ? I mean is the ppp near the note will perform ppp and cresc. doing a crescendo and so on ???

    Thank You !!

  • Basic idea of Note Expression is that you can assign controllers on a per note base http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cubase/cubase6_new_features.html#c83963

However this depends on VST 3.5 (which is , as far as i know only available for Steinbergs HALion Sonic)

  • VST Expressions might actually become handy, even though it's still not perfect. I still feel a bit like a walking and talking wallet (139 euros to upgrade and have... what... 3 new features and 2 old features enhanced ?) VST Expression should have been updated a long time ago...

But anyway, might be worth it, with the 64 bits support (finally) and the new way to edit automation (again, very useful for us, but not very complicated to program... and not very time consuming either... A year for this...)

And i'm pretty sure we will discover new bugs that will not be solved until Cubase 7. And maybe a few downgraded features, like audio stretching in cubase 5 (which had worse algorithms than before)

That's where you see the difference between VSL and Steinberg. Both are expensive, but only one is really doing its job correctly, and taking its customers into account.

Another astonishing new feature : you can know edit multiple tracks at the same time ! No ??!! must have been a very very long process to program such a complex feature. What sounds more astonishing to me is that it was not possible before...

Is this a planned enhancement for VI pro in the near future?

Does 'Note Expression' work when there is only one note played at a time in the track?  If so, I would think it may at least be a little bit helpful in keeping CC and notes together if you moved them around.

(I'm also curious whether VI or VI Pro may be upgraded to VST3.5 to work with Note Expression.)

  • I have been using Cubase 6 for quite some time now and I'm very happy with it. The best so far IMHO, and the mosts stable 0.0 version I can remember. It's no perfect, though, but no program is.

Of course, you can use Note Expression with VI or any other standard 2.x plugin, the only difference is that expressions works for all the notes at the same time, just like any other CC message. MIDI has no support to send a CC to a single note.

However, having VI or VI Pro in VST3.5 format would be absolutely great. The ability to detune or crossfade individual notes in a chord would increase the usability of the libraries.

  •  Go ahead VSL !!![H]

  • Andi Based in Fletching, do you use Cubase 6? Need some help email: Debra@channon.org
