New to VSL: looking for some hints.
Hi, i just bought the VSL SE/SE+ full bundle and have some questions concerning the best use of controllers or/and keyswitches. Maybe some people can give me some advice. I'm using Cubase5 64bit on a Windows7 machine and a Motif XS6 as Controller/Keyboard. 1.) VSL - Expressions The downloadable VSL expressions are nice, but soon i recognized that they will only work, if the velocity x-fade is being switched off, because some of the expression directly modify the velocity which has no effect at all, when the x-fade is on. Did you create your own expressions or don't you use VST-expressions at all? I don't want to record the track with velocity because cresc./dim. would rather be difficult. 2.) Automation I tried to switch the keyswitch buttons manually with "write" on. Normaly this records in realtime when playing back the track the modifications done in the plugin (when switching "read" on). But nothing happens. The sounds are being changed but they aren't recorded. Thanks in advance. EDIT: Sorry, but the board totally destroyed the alignment of the post...

Last things first, if you go to your User Area, to Profile and then to Community and set the content editor to "ENHANCED", you'll be able to lay your message out as you want.
I tried using VST expressions, but I couldn't get on with it, I found the best way was to change the keyswitches to a continuous controller and then you can use a controller lane in Cubase to draw the event when you need them, the trouble with key switches is that they mess the score page up. So I have CC1 for Y axis, CC2 for X axis, CC3 for AB and CC11 for expression.
I am sure VST expressions maps should be better, but I just don't get on with them

Thanks, both of you.
I think the best solution is to create my own VST-Expressions based on the preset matrices which i'll have to modify first...

Edit:
Orchestra+ strings expressions done. [:D]
I set the V-Span to keyswitches, so the modwheel can be used to control the velocity X-Fade.
Every cell has it's own (directional) expression now. Maybe not ideal for printing out a score but for editing purposes nice to have...
