  • pops and dropouts

Hello, I'm currently a demo user of ensemble and would like to see if I can't get it working solidly before I purchase the software. I have 28 days or so left on my demo license so hopefully I can work it out before then. I've been having dropouts on VSL Pro. I have currently 1 instance running on a slave computer. So far it's happened in each session I've tried. It's stable I'd say 95% of the time but then there will be a little dropout here and there. I typically will load up omnisphere or a string patch and just hold down long chords over periods of time to test it out. That way i can really hear when it drops out. I've tried it with two host computers and two slave computers. I've tried it with Host being Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and host being MAC OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.5 32bit. I've tried it as a slave being a Windows 7 64bit machine and with a Macbook pro machine as well. I've tried it between the two windows machines at the same time, between the two Mac machines at the same time, and also tried it cross platform. I've tried it in Cubase 5 as the host and Studio One as the host. I've tried it with VST III instance and VST II instance. I've tried it with the ethernet cables going through a WRT320N Gigabit Router with DDWRT installed. I've tried it going through an Asus Gigabit switch with nothing else on the switch besides the uplink to the router to act as the DHCP host. I've tried it connected from the main host, which has two Gigabit ethernet ports on the back, which I bridged and ran the other port directly out to the slave computer. Nothing seems to deliver rock solid performance yet. Is there something else I can try? My system specs are noted below. Main Host Computer: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Windows 7 64bit Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83 GHZ 8 Gigs of RAM, 4 of which is DDR2 800 and 4 of which is DDR2 1066 Main Slave Computer: Asus P5Q Windows 7 64bit Core 2 Duo Conroe 2.4 GHZ 4 Gigs of Crucial DDR2 800 RAM Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me.

  • bump. anyone?

  • figured it out. for some reason the gigabit ports (both of them) on my GA-EP45-UD3P did not like VSL Ensemble Pro. I put a $12 Trendnet Gigabit PCI card in a PCI slot and now it works perfectly. :)

  • Thanks for the report. There are so many possible controllers and network chips on the market today - it is really hard for us to know if every motherboard and network card is performing well with VE Pro.

More of these reports will help us to get a good overview

    Merry xmas,
