MIR as VST or Ethernet!

Just wondering if you chaps at VSL think MIR will be released as either a VST plug or connectable via ethernet (like VEPro).

 MIR Pro will bring close integration of the MIR concept in most (if not all) existing DAW environments. Vienna MIR (the current product) will stay a stand-alone application.

As soon as we have a somewhat closed feature set there will be a preliminary announcement.

Hi Dietz,

I am just downloading MIR SE as I write this, and I am not sure what Leif means as a VST plug in, as I understand it only as a standalone version, but I am thinking that what is meant here [as MIR being avaliable as a plug in], is that it will be similiar to the Vienna Suite - you create your audio files of each instrument from your DAW, then for each instrument, you channel it into MIR, so that MIR is not dealing with sounds directly from sample playback, but from Audio file playback. Is that what is meant here?

That's more or less the idea for MIR Pro. Ideally it will work as alternative, but integrated front end for any DAW.

Hi all, Sorry for my very poor technical skills, but will this mean that the integration of MIR PRO and the sequencer in only one machine will be easier? I am asking this because I don't have the MIR yet, and the manual talks about quite complicated things in the chapter "Typical setup 2 - MIR side by side with a sequencer on the same machine". Thank you for an answer, ciao Tino

Well - "easier" depends on the point of view. :-)

Right now, it is actually as easy as is can get: You start two applications with clearly defined tasks, and you're more or less ready to roll.

With MIR Pro, we aim for a tight integration of the MIR concept into an existing DAW, and this will blur the line between the two of them. This will give you more options (like the straight-forward use of audio streams within MIR), but it will pose different issues, of course.

... don't be to frightened by the detailed explanations in MIR's manual about integrations and setup. You know, things that are mostly self-explanatory are the hardest ones do describe in a step-by-step cooking recipe style.

I only have one more question about this: Mir was initially conceived for living alone in its own machine. Have you guys from VSL tested the other configuration, i.e. a melting-pot with Mir and a sequencer in the same machine?

Like DG  wrote - many of our users (including me ;-) ...) do this nowadays. BTW - there's a dedicated section in the MIR-manual covering this topic in detail ("Typical Setup 2 – Vienna MIR side-by-side with a MIDI sequencer / DAW / notation program on the same machine", p. 76-81).

The manual is available as free download on your User Area.
