  • MIR & Kontakt 4 don't play well together [SOLVED]

     Hi everyone,

I just purchased the MIR mixing software and am very pleased with the sound quality, music just comes to life! Great concept.

The problem though, at least for me right now, is that I can't seem to be able to play more than one instrument using Kontak 4... From the second instrument, MIR seems to not transmit the MIDI signal it recieves from the sequencer to Kontakt anymore. I can see the little light blinking when sending MIDI messages in MIR, but nothing happens in Kontakt, so I checked to make sure the instrument was properly loaded and yes, when I clic on Kontatk's virtual keyboard with the mouse I get sound coming out of it.

So my question is, how can I fix this? I'm using loopbe30 like recommended in the video etc... Is this problem coming from MIr? Is it a Kontakt 4 issue?

I also have experienced another problem within MIR when using Vienna instrument PRO, if I change the tuning of an instrument, the tuning option works on the first instrument I load but then I usually need to close MIR and restart it to be able to use the tuning functionality on a second vienna instrument PRO instrument... Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I am sorry about this long post and hope what I said made sense and was understandable.

Thank you for your time and help.

    Regards,

    Skander

  • Hi Skander, did you choose the same midi-chanel for the i n s t r u m e n t inside Kontakt, like the incoming midi-signal for the Kontakt instance (must be the same like in the right window)? Sorry, maybe stupid questions...maybe it helps! kind regards doubleattack

  •  Hi Doubleattack,

Thank you for replying to my post, but unfortunatly yes, I did, every midi port is assigned properly just like any other instruments that actually work, I really don't understand why kontakt is giving me so much trouble.

    Cheers mate,

    Skander

Hmmmm ... there's seems to be a bundle of new problems with Kontakt 4 in MIR (see also this thread). We will do our best to see what's happening.

In any case - thanks for reporting, and sorry for the inconvenience.

    Kind regards,

    Best regards,

    Skander

Skander, I tested the scenario you were describing, and I have no problems to use multiple instruments within one instance of Kontakt 4.

Make sure that you have the proper MIDI in selected in the "frame" MIR puts around each VSTi - e.g. "1. Internal MIDI". On the right, select  "--Omni--" for the MIDI channel. All MIDI channel selection now has to be done inside of Kontakt, of course - e.g. [ A ] 1, [ A ] 2 and so on. . ... works like a charm here, really.

Regarding the tuning issues you seem to have encountered ...  did you already try to use MIR Version 1.2, build 1810, to see if this problem is gone now?

    Kind regards,

  •  All right, thank you for your reply, that sounds like it might work, I didn't think about leaving the second tab to "omni" and then select the midi chanels from within Kontakt 4 I will try this along with the new version of MIR and will let you know if it fixes my problem.

By the way, is there a way to make custome tunings for vienna instrument PRO? That would really come in handy ( especially for arabic tuning since every region pretty much uses its own tuning).

  • Hi skander77,

I may jump in here. A scale editor for Vienna Instruments PRO is still on our to-do-list. Meanwhile, the best way to go is to open a scale-file in a text editor and change the values manually - then save the scale file under a different name in the same folder.

This is the location of the scales:

    • OS X: Library\Application Support\VSL\Vienna Instruments Pro\Scales
    • Win7 + Win Vista: C:\ProgramData\VSL\Vienna Instruments Pro\Scales
    • Win XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VSL\Vienna
    Instruments Pro\Scales

    Best,

    Paul
