  • prepared piano

    Hi,

recently I bought the special keyboards and now I am wondering what exactly was done and used to get these sounds. Some more details would be nice.

The 'harmonic' for instance sounds more secco to me that the 'harmonic secco'. What was done with the glass? On top of the strings or was something made of glass put between them (like the screws)? And was the foil wrapped around the strings or just put on top of them?

    grtz

  •  hello Janco,

here: http://vsl.co.at/en/65/71/894/459/294.vsl you'll find a video, some pictures shows the work on the prepared piano. the glass, for example, stood upside down direct on the strings of the piano, the chain was placed on the strings over an area of two or three keys. stick: hiting the strings with a drumstick. harmonics: one version damped with a finger on the strings (secco), another version damped the strings with rubber. the screws were screwed between the strings. glissandi were played with a rubber and the foil was both wrapped around the strings and placed in top of them.

i hope you find this helpful, all the best,
