  • MIR questions

I have two questions about MIR (the demo version). I'm not sure if they are separate issues or connected to each other.

I've noticed that I cannot set the volumes for three violin matrices (for one instrument) to remain precisely the same. They seem to be off by tenth or so. For example, if I use three violin matrices for my violin (VI articulation combination, VI performance universal. and VI repetitions combination) and I stack the violin icons on each other so the solo violin sounds are emanating from the same source on the stage, the volumes for each matrix don't remain precisely the same. The repetitions Combination is at -4.1 but the Performance Universal matrix goes to -4.13. It's a very small and negligible a difference, but why does it occur? Is it a result of stacking the icons? Even if I type in the values, one matrix gets bumped up or down in volume by a very small value. Why does this happen?

Another question: When I'm emulating a string trio, should I line up the three control icons for a single instrument so that they sit precisely on top of each other? For example, for the violin I use three matrices: VI articulation combination, VI performance universal. and VI repetitions combination. Do I place the icons precisely on top of each other? Is there another way?

  • Hello Marko,

I'm not sure that I understand your first question correctly. Where do you see the different volume values? In MIR's Instrument Channel, or in Vienna Instruments' GUI?

Regarding the use of MIR's Instrument Icon I would suggest to use as many articulations as possible within _one_ VI-Player, to keep MIR's stage as uncluttered as possible. If you really need more than one player for one instrument or ensemble on stage, I would line them up loosely, group the most important parameters, and hide all but one Icon from the main view.

... I hope this was at least a little bit helpful ...?
