  • MIR + VE Pro?

It might be a stupid question. so sorry for that ;) Can I use both (MIR and VE Pro) to have my DAW and some instruments on the master pc and MIR on a slave pc? thx

  • Welcome Kambiz,

Thanks for your interest in our products.

While it would be _possible_ to use Vienna MIR as the host for VEP, it wouldn't make much sense. Our developers see the following obstacles:

    - The VE Pro connector will be limited to one MIDI port. (16 channels)

    - An instrument in MIR is made for stereo channels only, no multichannel handling of VE Pro outputs. Thus you'd have to open a VE Pro instance for every instrument.... or be happy to pipe (16) instruments into one position.

    - VE Pro will give a (network) latency which can not automatically be compensated for by the host sequencer.

  •  Hi Dietz.

I really enjoy MIR it's awesome..My question is how to use MIR with Cubase I know MIR isn't a vst plug in but if I made a project through MIR how can I record my work  with MIR in Cubase 5 ?

    Shakuman.

  • Are you intending to use Cubase and MIR on the same PC? If so, you will need to use Virtual MIDI cables from Cubase and to get the audio back you will need to use the audio loopback facility of your soundcard, or if there is none, use a physical cable out and back in.

  •  Hi DG.

Thanks for your quick response..Yes I want to use MIR and cubase5 on same computer but in fact I don't have much experience in how to do what you mentioned above..I use LoopBe 30 as a midi virtual cable and RME Hammerfall HDSP 9632 Hi-End Pro Audio as my sound card is it possible DG to tell me how to do this ? really I will appreciate it..

    All the best.

LoopBe 30 will be fine. However, you need to check that the RME driver is Multi Client, If it's not, it ain't gonna work.

    Hi Shakuman,

Like DG wrote - LoopBe30 is most certainly the way to go, just make sure that you switch off its "smart" shortcut detection feature: It deliberately restricts the internam MIDI-communication to the 32 kBaud of the original MIDI-specs, which leads to permanent system halts.

Regarding the lack of multi-client capable audio drivers: On many systems it is possible to use both a professional device and the built-in cheapo-audio card side-by-side. That's a short "how to":

    - Use the free ASIO4ALL-drivers for the built-in card.

    - Connect both devices digitally on behalf of SPDIF cable.

    - Use the built-in card to record audio with a DAW on the same computer.

    - Make sure that both cards are in sync!

... of course, a true multi-client device is the "proper" solution 😉

  •  Many thanks Dietz I will give it a try..Also I need to know what's the right midi setup in both MIR and Cubase 5..

    All the best.

    Shakuman.

  • That's easy. As soon as you have installed LoopBe30, there will be MIDI In- and Out-ports called Internal MIDI 1, Internal MIDI 2 and so on (depending on the number of ports you opened in LoopBe's settings). A MIDI track in Cubase that sends data to "Internal MIDI 1 - Chan 1" will control any VI within MIR that is set to receive its data from the In-port with the same name. It must be set to the same channel, too, of course. - Pretty much straight-forward.
