VEP + Absynth: Audio Input
I'm having trouble with this and so far haven't found a solution. Yes I can open Absynth 5 fine and everything, but how am I supposed to use the FX if I can't pass an audio input? Likewise I could put it on an effects bus and use Wormhole to pass the audio, but then I can't control my MIDI input anymore! If anyone knows of a way around this, it'd be a great help.

You can, but the problem is if you want to key in MIDI input you cant, or you can with an AU Instrument track but you cant receive in External Audio, not even within VEP. So I basically tried a couple ways: 1. Loaded Absynth as an AU Instrument Track, Sent the audio from my DAW via Wormhole 2 to an Aux bus in VEP and tried busing the output of the Aux into the AU Instrument Track. You cant. While you can access the MIDI Key events, you cant bus out an Aux to an AU Instrument track. 2. Tried putting the Wormhole 2 plugin as an effects send on the AU Instrument track. However, effects are post event or are processed after the instrument has been assigned, so that didn't work. 3. Put Absynth on an Aux bus and the Wormhole 2 plugin on the same bus. Now you can get the audio processing, however AUX tracks cant receive in MIDI data so that didn't work. *smoke rising lol* 4. Tried finding an external plugin that will receive midi data and assign it on an Aux bus in the order, Wormhole 2, "Midi Plugin", Absynth. Result = Didn't work. The Midi plugin (or at least the one I tried) only sends an output to an appropriate external device on your computer. Even though Absynth allows for you to set the channel it's to look on (automatically set to Omni) on an Aux bus, I dont know where (if at all) it's looking for MIDI input. 5. Tried an Midi event Arpeggiator plugin in the same way as number 4. Same result as number 4. 6. Tried messing around with the Audio Track. Same problem. Now I'm out of ideas... If I'm missing something, please let me know.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, I'd say you should be able to open Absynth as FX-insert to use it for processing audio input ...?
ooooo.. somebody is letting a well-known secret out...
Yes, Absynth (especially Ver 5) is a great sound designer tool. It's poised appearance and its reputation as sound-landscape-toy is misleading. It is indeed an incredible semi-modular sound designer synth, when you really read the manual and don't get irritated by the presets.
As effects, it can have "audio in" instead of sample or oscillators and the variety of filters from "cool resonant" to "granular absurd" is available as effects route.
Speaking of the question: (I have Windows XP SP3) there are multiple VSTs with Absynth: One is stereo, one is surround and one is labelled "Absynth FX". the first one are midi input / sound output and the other is audio in/audio out All are working fine for me.
(When I had more time I could post something. Actually, I am working on using VST samplesin Absynth as source for some extremely cool orchestral patches - speaking of epic horns.. )
Too old for Rock n Roll. Too young for 9th symphonies. Wagner Lover, IRCAM Alumni. Double Bass player starting in low Es. I am where noise is music. -
You misread the question. The problem is not with getting Absynth itself to work, the problem is having the ability to pass both MIDI and Audio data TO a Vienna Ensemble Pro loaded plugin which I have not been able to do (read above). For lack of a better plugin, same thing with Orange Vocoder.
