Will the upcoming choir be updated in the future with a wordbuilder, or has it been decided that a word-building option will not be implemented because it compromises the quality of the realism of the library?

Choir - wordbuilding?

It would have to work better than the Symphonic Choirs version to be worth having. It's just so counter-intuitive, doesn't work well within your song (you can't just rewind a phrase and pick up) So it appears to be just for computer programmers or composers with time to spare and then only usable like an audio file rather than a midi region.

You can start in the middle of a phrase, but because there is no direct link between the sequencer and WB it takes a few more clicks. However, I find that PLAY is very flaky on my system, in fact it's the only plug that I have that is able to crash Nuendo with no effort at all. Therefore, i tend to program outside of my main session in phrases, and then load them back in as audio files. Not a very elegant solution. I don't think that the sounds are that great either (lots of out of tune and worse samples), so I was really hoping that VSL would hit the ball out of the park on this one. I guess that it will require much more software development to make it work.
Having said all that, kudos to Herb and the team for listening to the users who said that they would rather have a VSL choir now than wait for a wordbuilding one.

So long as they know that there are a great lot of composers out there who would very much appreciate a functional word-builder, the works of merit featuring wordless choirs are so few by comparison, and as far as use of wordless choirs in film, I swear it is just so cliched, kitsch, and tired...

There is one feature in the Eastwest Choirs that I find myself using more than the word builder utility and that's the sampled latin phrases. In my work, the audience doesn't necessarily have to be able to pick out individual words just so as it sounds like the choir is singing words. Now if only I could get a more intuitive user interface, like VSL's, then maybe I could find my Eastwest MIDI chiors sessions more enjoyable and less of a headache.
Perhaps if VSL can maybe improve on that feature it might be worth looking into. I wouldn't mind having this Eastwest feature but set up in a VSL user interface.

One thing is for certain.... If VSL comes out with a word builder add-on in their choir at some point down the road, I'm sure it will be a must own.
Not to side track the conversation here but I found an interview with Hans Zimmer speaking about the language sung by Lisa Gerrard in the movie Gladiator interesting. You can check out the interview here - half way down the page where the topic is Angles and Demons:
