  • Does anyone use VI on Sonar?

I have not purchased VI yet. I need some help though. I use Sonar Cakewalk Pro Edition. 1.Does VE work well with Sonar? 2.Do I need at least 4GB RAM? 3.And is the Intel Duo 2 Core required? Sorry for so many questions. As you can see I am new at this and need some help. Thank You, LS

  •  I use Sonar, and have no problems at all with it. I have 4gb with a AMD dual core. Runs excellent.  Hope this helps.

    Best, Joseph

  • I'm using Sonar 8.3 with VSL and it works great. In fact, I'm using the 64bit version of Sonar, on XP64 with 8 gigs of RAM, and after I load a pretty good sized SE orchestra ( wind octet + picc + contrabsn, full brass section, harp, celesta, timp, usual perc, orch strings and app. strings), actually use pretty much all of it, I still have 2 gigs free! Yippee!

  • I believe Jay Bacal used Sonar for Rite of Spring so the combination seems to work O.K. ... [H]

  • I use Vi, VE wtih Sonar 7, Producer Suite and it works very well.

  •  Hi LS,

I, too, use VSL VE with Sonar 8.3. No problems with Sonar running multiple instances of VE. As far as RAM goes, it depends on how much you think you might load. Are you speaking of purchasing the "Special Edition" because I believe that version is meant to run comfortably less RAM?

Do a search for different aspects of system builds on this forum and you'll come up with lots of useful information on computer configuration, amount of RAM, and processors.

Where you might ask if there would be a problem is between your sound card and Sonar. If you have a good, stable card and good drivers, then with a dual core processor (of decent speed -- say 2.4 and above) with 4 gigs of RAM you should be able to load an run quite a bit with no problems in Sonar.

Hope this helps. Any specific questions, just ask.

I use VE and Sonar with RME soundcards and never have had a problem.

  •  Yes, RME makes very good cards.
