    sorry, but i can´t wait to know... will my mac g5 quad be fast enough? and if you say one needs 4 GB of RAM for all velocity layers, does that mean that all adressable RAM is eaten up by imperial? so that practically no (very few) additional vsl-instruments can be used on my computer? 

    or will the newly designed engine be able to adress separate additional RAM apart from the RAM used by the "old-school" vsl engine? my mac is equipped with 12 GB of RAM, so this would of course be quite nice for me.

     can't comment on mac versions (since i didn't have any on my dsk so far) - thinking about how it is done on windows i'd assume it will use its own memory space.

    memory - well, on the 4 GB PC ~ 3.2 GB have been left to the system, 1 GB was used by windows, and we have not been able to load all three mic positions into the remaining 2.2 GB - sorry, but i can't remember how much memory exactly one mic position needed.

    In standalone mode the piano needs approximate 1.65 GB RAM.

    There are several options included to load lighter versions (for example loading without softpedal samples, or without release samples).

    And of course you have the option to minimize RAM usage using our Sample Optimize feature (same proceder like in all Vienna Instruments).

    it would be of some interest for me if you (someone at vsl) did some testing on macs too before releasing, it´s a matter of can-i-buy-or-not (immediately, i definitely will eventually), and i´d love to (having waited for this for longer than you may imagine).

    it´s not that important to me (to whom?) to have all micings loaded at the same time, and if imperial really adresses its own memory, well, this would be just great for me. i could have my 4 gigs for old-school vsl, say 2 gigs for imperial, leaving 6 gigs for system, logic and exs (and the other software instrument-"company-who-must-not-be-named" - a**holes). fine for me.

    my credit card is shivering with anticipation - up to you now :)

    i assume memory requirements will not differ much whether using standalone- or plugin-mode?

    i appreciate the options to reduce memory requirements with the methods you mentioned above, but i would not dare to cut a shining diamond until it fits into my pocket :)

    1.7 gigs would not be such a pain as i was afraid of, but the issue of imperial adressing separate memory from vsl and logic or not still is of some importance to me. 

    besides, what about sound-demos?

    I'm also very interested in hearing demos and wondering if it's still definitely on schedule for spring 2009?  I know the March date was changed and am hoping that it won't be pushed further out.

    The bar needs to be raised for sampled pianos.  Hoping this Vienna Imperial takes it to a whole new level.

     no - you wouldn't want to download ~25 GB ;-)

    Why not? I wouldn't mind downloading any size if that's make it a bit cheaper. E.g. my Kabel Deutschland modem has 32MBit/s, that's about the speed with which my DVD drive can copy data. It would even save me the torture of DJ-ing all those DVDs!

    So, even if it's 250GB, a download version could be an option.

    Yeh, but as I'm sure you've found out the speed limitation is more often how quick the server can stream the data to you and if a thousand other purchasers were trying to download.....

    yeah, so if every user could gather real 30 Mbit we would need to restrict Vienna Imperial download purchases to 3 every 120 minutes to not affect the regular traffic 😉 ... that's ok ...

    It depends on how your broadband is charged. Some ISPs (e.g. in the UK) give you a limit of xx GB per month, after which you get charged extra or they limit your line speed. My account includes 20GB, after which I get charged £1 per GB, so 25GB would cost me £5 assuming I didn't do anything else on the internet that month. In reality, I tend to use pretty close to my allowance, so I'd really be looking at a cost of £25 to download!

    Our developement team is just finalizing our upcoming Vienna Imperial.

    Everybody here in Vienna who had the chance to play with our new piano was extremly impressed.

    Wow, very exciting.  Is this demo with any additional reverb?  Also, which position is it (close, player or distant)?

    Any additional EQ used on this piece?

    I think it's out of the box using internal reverb and EQs, and I think it's the close position.

    Maybe Christian chimes in and gives more detailed informations.

    The reason why the Vienna Imperial is possible is, iirc, that there exists a piano that can be actuated by a computer with very high precision, otherwise it would not be possible to record 100 distinguished layers. To do this with a violin, you have to find a way to achieve something similar. I never heard of a computer actuated violin...
