  • VE Crash in Logic - can't open old projects

    Hi all,

this is getting a little annoying now...

I'm on Logic 8.02, latest versions of VE, syncrosoft, etc. the only thing not up to date is OSX (10.5).

I'm trying to open an old project, it hasn't been moved, consolidated, or adjusted in any way, it's still in the same place on the same hard drive as it was for its conception.

VE crashes ('The application Vienna Ensemble quit unexpectedly') every time on loading the project, and I need to make some adjustments to it as the video has been reedited.

My initial thoughts were that for some reason it was just overloaded with instruments, and maxing out the ram, but then I added another 8GB, and the same problem persists.

I then thought that maybe I had used some level 2 instruments in the file, so I installed the 'extra 30 day' demo licenses in order to check, but it still doesn't open.

(By the way, Vienna, could you do something about the syncrosoft license centre message - you only have 'x' amount of starts left - as it opens behing the mainVE window, and can only sometimes be clicked on as you cannot tab to it, so it usually involves a force quit and reboot).

Any suggestions appreciated, I'm on a deadline.

Even a solution to open without vienna so i can reassign instruments would be useful.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Roso. I'm no expert but have you tried different ways to launch the project? E.g double-clicking it in the song folder to launch Logic. Seem to recall loading a temperamental file successfully that way but not with VE. Are your backup files crashing as well? Best of luck. Colin..

  • Hi!If anybodydowloaded the nu updates and applied it and getting crashes,Pls download the the nu synchrosoft update also and install it then restart. All will work fine......Cheers....

  • I'm using the latest LCC.

I'm fairly sure that at the moment it's a syncrosoft problem as the screen that's supposed to pop up helpfully telling me that I only have x amounts of starts left for the L2 demo is either opening behind VE, or opening as a white blank square which turns the mouse into a spinning wheel on rollover. This square incidentally doesn't disappear until reboot.

VE loads up a certain amount of ram, then stops, still on the 'loading' screen. Then either the white square appears, or just nothing.

I can see the number of demo starts decreasing in the LCC each time I have to reboot aswell, which indicates an lcc issue.

I've also tried using an older version of VE.

Before this (as in my first post), I'm fairly sure that the problem was that I had an L2 instrument in an older project, and it wouldn't open as the L2 demo period was over. So... how am I supposed to use the extra 30 day grace period if infact syncrosoft hasn't produced a compatible piece of software to enable this?

This was a problem before and I'm sure other people must be having it as they come to the end of their demo L2 180 day cube period on leopard. Last time I just rebooted and rebooted until the demo was up. This time I'm getting really p1ssed off. Surely people are paid to test software on platforms they advertise it to be compatible with. Clearly easy money at s/soft.

I'll email the techies at vsl.
