  • Sibelius and VSL SE in another computer

    HI,

I would buy the Vienna Special Edition (full), but can Sibeilus work with VSL if the Special Edition is in another computer ?
(Connected by Ethernet and Vienna Ensemble 3 host)
How many instruments can I manage ?

Sibelius work in a Mac Pro with Mac OSX 10,5 and VSL could work in a PC with XP Pro x64.

P.S. Thank you very much at all representatives of Vienna for the informations at the MusikMesse ;)

    Thank you,
    Pâriss G.

  • Nobody ?

  • Hi and welcome PianoPariss,

we are also testing this configuration soon, basically nothing speaks against it.

I just wonder why you wouldn´t run the Special Edition on your MacPro? It is a very powerful machine, and with 1 instance of Vienna Ensemble and some additional VI´s you can use up to 5.5 GB RAM.

It always depends on your CPU and RAM, how many instruments you can load....

    Best,

    Paul

  • Hi,

Thank you for your answer ;)

Well, I run VSLSE in another PC because it's a personnel choice :)
And because the Mac Pro must run others plugins (convulsion reverb, etc.).

So, in a few months I can do this ?

    Best,

    Pâriss G.

  • Paul:

I would like your thoughts on running multiple instances of the VE standalone on 8 core MacPro equipped with 16-32GB of RAM as an alternative - - to using Bootcamp and Vista 64 - - while users wait for an OSX compatible 64bit version of VE 2 and VE 3. Are there significant drawbacks to doing this? I suspect that an answer to this question would be useful to many Mac users.

    Thanks,

    Stephen

  • i can only confirm that VE 2/3 on VISTA64 installed with the BootCamp wizard on a macPro 4core 16 GB runs smooth.

btw: yesterday SP1 has been published for VISTA64 which i can really recommend if you're looking for a performance boost.

it is highly recommended to create a backup image before though, because it is said that some un-mentioned drivers would prevent the servicepack from running properly .... however this didn't happen on a quad XEON with intel NICs, an ATI 1950, TI dual-FW and intel 5000 chipset (edit: and RME hardware)

I guess I will have to find out the answer to my question the hard way. I would much rather run everything (VE, Logic, Finale, etc.)  on one computer than on two. (A shame to buy a new MacPro and not be able to run Logic on it with VE.) Perhaps some forum participant has some experience running multiple VE standalones on a MacPro?

  • it appeared to me this question has already been answered ... of course you _can_ ... but sooner or later you will hit some limit, especially since i'm sure it will not be only logic, finale and VE ....

sorry, but your last question indicated you're asking for vista on a macPro ...
