Is VE limited to 32 outputs?
Also, on a Mac system that is offering more than 32 outputs through Core Audio, is there a way to select WHICH of those VE will address?
Example - I have 2x2408 attached to my slave Mac Pro. Offering a total of 48 outs. A normal DAW will see all 48 available outputs. VE sees only 32. In fact it only see THE FIRST 32. I plan to expand this Mac to have 72 or more outputs through the same single 2408 driver.
If I want to run 2 instances of VE, I can see no way to allow the 2nd instance to address a different "range" of 32 outputs. My only solution would be to host 2 instances of VE inside a DAW, acting as a slave. The problem with this (at least in Cubase/Nuendo) is that you need to set up MIDI channel filtering to get each DAW track to "listen" on the correct MIDI channels. This is all fine except I get dropped notes and note-offs, as no DAW is really designed to work this way. Another solution would be to host more than one VE through Plogue Bidule - but it drops notes too.
Further, running Kontakt alongside this presents the same problem.
Interestingly, if I install 2 separate 828's (not 2408's), they come up as separate drivers - allowing 2 VE's to see each one independently. But I don't want this, I want to use my 2408's which come up as one giant driver.
I almost need the opposite of Apples aggregate device. I need a way to partition my audio driver.
Any thoughts or work flows welcome. Also, the official line on VE's outputs would be great to know.
Thanks.
Ben Bartlett.
