  • Vienna Ensemble and polyphony

    Dear All,

Is there a polyphony slider in Vienna Ensemble?  I’m finding that I’m experiencing voice-robbing when I play four or more notes at a time in a homophonic passage while sketching in Ensemble.  If there’s a way to increase polyphony, I’d love to know.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

  • kevin, there is a hidden feature -  you can change polyphony with ''Ctrl+Alt+P'' (PC), or ''Apple+alt+P'' on a Mac - but be aware increasing polyphony will put more load on your CPU - i'd recommend to use multiples of 32, default is 64, max is 256, more than 128 might be not a good idea ...

  • Question:

I've never really had a need to up the polyphony, but i tried it tonight, and when i do the "Cmd+Opt+P" trick, a dialog window came up which read "Polyphony Default= -1"

Im curious about the naming here. Obviously, there is no such thing as NEGATIVE ONE voices available, so does that setting of "-1" which is default, mean the standard 64 voices? And if i wanted to increase  the allowed voices, do i type in the maximum number of voices i wanted? If, for example, i wanted 96 would i simply type in "96"? Or do i type in the amount of voices i wish to ADD to the default (if i wanted that 96, would i type in 32 to add to the assumed default of 64?)

Or is there some other cryptic scheme where "-1" means 64, "-2" means 32, etc.....

  • -1 means basically *not set* so it defaults to the inherited setting.

to change the default (which is 64) simply type the number of desired voices but it is recommended to choose multiples of 8 (eg. 96).

please note higher poliphony will consume more CPU.
