  • Bach V Brandeburg Concert

A friend of mine who is a professional classical violinist with perfect pitch and play keyboard quite well has asked to me to make a VSL rendition of the Bach's V Brandeburg Concert. If the think will like to him he could enter into the VSL world.

I have the stnd and ext. SOLO STRINGS VI instrument, and the stnd and ext. Special Edition libraries.

I wonder which is the most appropriate tone for using in the first movement ribattuto (repetitions) from the following list:

    13 PERF REPETITION:

    Legato slow
    Staccato
    Spiccato

    Legato fast
    Bow vibrato slow and fast
    Portato slow/medium/fast
    Harsh

    14 FAST REPETITION

Normal and dynamics, speeds from 150 to 200 BPM
Ricochet: Normal with 150 to 190 and 210 BPM, 3 quick repetitions, accelerando, ritardando

For the strings, should I use only the solo strings or add some Special edition strings for the violino and viola di ripieno parts?

Any other advise would be appreciate

    Thank you

    Sergino

  •  For some really great ideas using repetition notes, have you had a look at Beat's tutorials on his webpage? Here is a link to the VSL part of this site that has links to various parts of his site. It's truly a great site, with loads of very helpful information.

On  Beat's web pabe, He gives some very good advice on ways to use repeated notes.

Here is the aforementioned link to the vsl page with info about his site, and direct links to it.

    .

For me,  I could possibly start the first note on a sforzando patch and the rest on staccato repetitions  [this is one of Beat's ideas], or, another possibility is using just  staccato repetitions, on the first four beats that have 4 semiquavers in them, and in the second bar with the descending passage based on desceding major scale, I would tryout something like a sfz on the C# followed by a staccato notes for the rest of the descending passage.

Or, if you are using staccatos - make sure the first note on the first beat of a bar, is accented above the other notes that follow it.

Another technique that  I experimented with - for the C# I would have a legato patch in the top of the V I player, and load a sfz in the bottom. In that way you get a sfz sound, plus a bit of a "join" with the legato patch joining to the beginning of the staccato note that follows it to the next interval down.

But, like I said Beat has terrific ideas on his web page, and I do recommend it very highly!

    best,

    Steve.

  • Thank Steve but I didn't mean how to use the samples but which are the closer repetition samples for using in the first movement.

    Ciao

  •  Hi Sergino,

sorry, I have obviously misunderstood what you were meaning. My apologies!

    best,

  • So, niemand in alte Vienna antworten kann?

(how many mistakes in my pseudo-deutsch sentence?)

I would like to impress some peolple to get them involved in the Vienna Instr. world.

They have challenged me with the beginning of the 1st movement of V concert, the repeated and light staccato ones.

I have both solo strings (stn+ ext) and SE (stn+ ext).

I don't ask how to use articulations but wich one could fit the best. Just for the violino principale first 2 bars.

It looks like we have a lot of possibilities but to me, as a piano-man is hard to define the right articulation

As it could get to some money for other Vienna Instruments, anybody from Vienna could help?

    Grazie

    Sergino
