We've uploaded an new version of Vienna Ensemble.
The multiple plugin bug is fixed (it's possible to use more than one instance of VE now)

mahlon, basically no need to uninstall a previous version, although we strongly recommend to reboot before updating.

Hi Christian
Please can you be a little more specific about what this update addresses. "minor bug fixes, nothing worth mentioning" doesn't really give users much guidance.
In particular, does this update fix the issues which users of Logic Pro on Mac have reported repeatedly on the forum, and which have apparently been acknowledged by the developers?
Many thanks
Jules
Hi Christian
Issues have been raised relating to Logic and VE crashes, loss of connection with the server application, spinning beachballs of death when instantiating, excessive CPU overhead and memory usage. Personally I have seen all of these issues at one time or another, and now only use VE in standalone mode.
Some of the threads in question are lsited below. As you and Marnix appear to have acknowledged at least some of these issues, it would just be helpful to know which of them have been addressed, cannot be reproduced, or are still awaiting attention.

I have also sent crashlogs to your support address, although these have never been acknowledged.
Many thanks for any additional information.

Well FWIW although there clearly seem to be some improvements, it's certainly not running perfectly on our system (8 Core Mac Pro, 8GB Ram, Logic Pro 7.2.3 etc.).
It does seem to load without some of the issues I was seeing previously (spinning beachballs of death, no connection to server etc.) which is definitely a big step forward. However, even with just 3 matrices loaded if I record even basic automation in Logic (simple volume fades) I get choppy audio as a result. After a while I exited Logic and immediately got a Vienna Ensemble crash. I'm happy to post a crashlog tomorrow if it helps at all.
I'll try and keep testing it further tomorrow and don't want to be too down on this release - I've no doubt the VSL guys have worked hard to make improvements - but there still seem to be some issues.

Well, I've managed to sort the automation related issues out - seems like VE doesn't like receiving Volume automation on separate MIDI channels.
However, I'm seeing crashes about every couple of hours - sometimes when I open the VE GUI, ocassionally instantiating an instrument etc. - not really any particular pattern
I'm happy to send crashlogs in if somebody wants to look at them, or I can post them here.
It would be nice if we could at least get some kind of response on these issues.
Thanks
Jules
In case it helps, it looks like I have a reproducible recipe for these crashes now.
I can send my Logic song, VE project and anything else you need if it helps you preroduce and fix these crashes. They only happen with the plugin - the standalone version with the same project loaded seems to work fine.
Jules
thx so far, however it would be more helpful to email the crashlogs to support@vsl.co.at to get them forwarded .... because also our audio machines are not connected to the internet and the forum can't be read on them ....

Hi Christian
I've sent the crashlogs in question to your support address.
Please let me know if you require additional information. I'm very keen to help get these issues resolved ASAP.

Hi Christian - thanks for the quick response.
I'm using Altiverb 6.1.1, which is the latest version AFAIK.

Hi,
You'll need to give us a bit more to go on... A bit more info on your setup would help. But, for now...
I'm using both VI and VE with PT7.3cs5 (Pro Tools|HD) and it all works absolutely beautifully. I also have the Special Edition as well as some of the individual VIs. When you use the Vienna Instruments then obviously there is only one MIDI channel per instance but when used inside Ensemble you create various instruments and assign a separate MIDI channel to each (you do need to do this yourself, they default to OMNI otherwise). So that might explain it. Certainly I'm getting 16 MIDI channels per instance of Vienna Ensemble. But as you say you've only just purchased the SE I wonder whether you might be confusing Vienna Ensemble with the Vienna Instruments plug-in? The latter (VI) comes on the DVD in the box, the former (VE) is a free download from the user area on this website once you've registered but you won't find it on the DVD.
Certainly you would only get one MIDI channel per instance of VI. For multiple MIDI channels you need to download VE. Do excuse me if I've guessed this wrong but the simplest solution is so often the right one...
Anyway, if you can give me a bit more info I'll do my best to help as I'm a fellow PT/VI user.
Regards
Nick
