  • Ideal system requirements for running VSL on a PC?

    Hello,

What are ideal system requirements for running VSL on a PC?

Say, the complete and for something like Opus 1 + 2.

Number of harddrives, number of processors, processing speed, RAM, etc.

    Thanks,
    Steve

2-6 computers ideally. With current limitations it's not ideal to have everything on one PC only. Granted you didn't look into the new VIs at all and are only interested in the sample libraries:

The "complete" VSL is only availible for GigaStudio, and this is taking almost everything it can get... 1.5 or 2GB RAM, at least 2.4 GHz CPU, two 7200rpm harddrives (1 for the OS and data, 1 for the samples/streaming), a GSIF compatible soundcard for each PC. I'm running Opus 1 from 1 PC currently, but I'm experiencing some limitations and having 2 PCs would be better. You can of course even run the complete set from 1 PC, but you'd have to bounce, load/reload a lot then.

I and others wrote quite some lines about this topic in this or the Giga section already, perhaps you can find something worth for you in a search.

    Hope this helps,

Polar is right. I am also struggling with 1 computer and now need a second (though I am waiting to see what I really need for VI when it comes).

At the moment, I have 2x 250Gb, 7200rpm, a 3.4Ghz threaded Pentium (think I have a pair of processors in there) with 2Gb of RAM. This allows me about 110 samples in Giga and one Gigapulse instance.
