I know this question might sound stupid... but is there any benefit to using 2 computers instead of one with a firewire drive. My computer has little memory. I was planning to install a firewire drive, but I am not sure that's the best option. Should I use 2 computers instead?

Are two better than one?

Hi,
2 computers are always better than one, but I think in your case RAM is the key, you need at least 1 GB in each machine you itend to run your streaming sampler on.
What setup do you use (Sampler, Sequencer, GHz, RAM and so on)?

Hey Paul, Thanks for your answer.
We are looking into buying VSL and we don't have a sampler yet. However my boss is pretty confident we'll get the Gigastudo 3- orchestra. My computer is a pentium 4 2.40 GHz, but only 512 MB of RAM.
As far as the sequencer, that is another question in itself. I use Sonar 4, but somebody has just posted questions related to it.

I wonder if I will have all those problems as well... and my question would be, would I also need to switch to Cubase or Logic?
Thanks, Paul.

Sonar and GigaStudio should work fine together, even on one computer, I also wrote a few suggestions in the other thread that you didn't comment yet. However to get you the best for the money it would be good to know which packages of VSL you'd like or are planning to use.
All the best,

Whatever you do if you want to use Gigastudio you'll need more RAM; I would go for either 1.5 or 2 GB.
Regarding sequencer, if you are happy with Sonar then continue with it. If you want a change then I think Cubase is very good. If you want to use Logic you have to get a Mac...!

Thanks DG! Hope Sonar does the trick, then! =)
Hey Polar Bear,
The problem is that I have never worked with samples before so I have no clue of much of what you replied [:(] I don't even have the GigaStudio 3 yet, but very soon (DM) I will meet with my boss and I need to tell him if there are any additional expenses we must consider... It sems that rogeriodec's problem is solved. And i just realized somebody posted a way to make sonar work opening 3 audio channels.
BTW, thanks for reading my mind, i just realized that the link I posted doesn't take you to the exact message posted.
As far as what package, we are going for the heavy stuff [H] Pro Edition, Yeah Baby! But it will take lots of space... I have 2 computers, both are identical, both have 512 MB of RAM. Should I install a firewire drive to one? to both? what are the advantages of using 2 computers vs. 1 with a lot of memory? I need to let my boss know right away if we need to spend more money on this. If we have to spend a lot, we might not be able to afford the Pro Ed...
Thanks for answering.

The memory issue is crucial with Giga. With the amount of instruments that the Pro Edition offers, you will run out very quickly with 512 Mb. Remember that not all that is available to GS, as some of it will be used for the operating system. If you ever get the Performance Set, then your memory may allow you about 6 legato instruments...!
Regarding the firewire drive, I have used them, but IMO it is more convenient to have an extra fixed drive, as well as being much cheaper.
