But surely you must beat the musicians when they play badly? [:O]

Thanks very much for your thorough description - it is very informative and helpful.
Regarding:I think that the applauded quality of AltiVerb probably can be attributed to its support for using two impulses, one for the left side of the stage, and one for the right. Back to my example: we need an impulse for sound emitted from the left part of the stage and one for the right part. This would include the required temporal and positional information into the impulse set.
I'm not sure that I understand how you're describing Altiverb as different from Pristine Space or IR-1 in this regard. Don't Pristine Space and IR-1 both provide for the proper use of "true stereo IRs", (i.e., left and right stage IRs)?. What does Altiverb provide that Pristine Space or IR-1 does not in this regard?
Also in this vein, are you aware of any algorithms and associated techniques for using them, (all implemented in the form of a plug-in or stand-alone application), that might provide a temporary workaround for existing "mono-stereo IRs"?. I'm referring to the possible use of a plug-in or application that might be capable of massaging one "mono-stereo IR" to produce a "pseudo" "stereo-stereo IR". The objective being a substantially useful approximation of a "true stereo-stereo IR" that mitigates very lateral sounds from coming out of convolution with an ambience at their lateral position (without having to narrow the input to the convolution)?
Alternatively, are you aware of commercially available "true stereo IRs" that are of comparable high quality to Ernest's "mono-stereo" Pure Space collections? (other than those for Altiverb, which, I believe, are in a proprietary format and for Mac only)
The reason for all of my questions here, btw, is that I would like to use the "best acoustical spaces" that are possible to "contain and deliver performances" - I can narrow inputs with Waves S1 as you've described, but would prefer "better solutions", if available.
thanks very much, and best regards... ...jim
