  • VIENNA RULES

I wanted to create this thread simply to try and communicate why I (and maybe others) think the VSL is an excellent company.

First of all, it is headed by a musician - Herb Tucmandl - who is a composer, cellist and a master of sampling who has been an extremely forward-thinking person concerning what needs to be done in order to make the sounds available to serious musicians and composers. He is not - like many other companies - simply trying to make a buck. He is trying to create a great musical resource for composers and musicians of the future based upon the finest traditions of the past.

This has only been done previously by one other person - Miraslav Vitous, who was working with technology that has long been superceded. His sample library, while still useable and wonderfully performed, doesn't have one tenth the detail of the VSL (literally).

Secondly, Herb has assembled a team of experts - Dietz in recording, Christian in programming, not to mention David Govett and Kevin Phelan who are at the top of their professions and all the others who have made this a truly great creation.

I have written some critical posts in the past because I strive to be honest, and I apologize if I have been obnoxious. But I wanted to say this as a simple gesture of appreciation to a company that has few equals in the music industry. I wish others would write about their appreciation for this company. These guys deserve it!

Sorry to gush about it but I am amazed by the response of Herb to these problems What a rarity this attitude is these days...

  • I feel like i'm part of a big happy family with my VSL! I WISH HERB WAS MY DAD! My real dad can't play the cello but he's pretty cool too actually.

  • Herb is the man! He turns anger into peace. I've seen it.

I join you at this point and like to express that I think VSL is an outstanding example of a truly customer driven devlopment and support organisation. They succeeded to bring out the very best of products in the sampling world and make it available for a even broader userbase now.

Of course, there aint nothing more difficult to organise upgrade politics without creating the one or the other unpleasant situation. The way they handle this here at VSL is not only unusual, but should be taken as examplatory, even adopted as a standard by the entire Industry of how good company politics can create a happy and loyal userbase.

Personally, I was management consultant for many years, remains the strong impression that this company is well functioning in terms of communication, and not teared appart by turf wars and internal politics.

A clear indicator of an excellent and visionary leadership combined with outstanding employee commitment. This is "the secret" ingredient that makes a good team become and excellent team!

On a list that would describe the top 100 most desirable companies in the Musik/Film industry to work for, VSL would earn a rank in the first 5, sharing the top ranks with the likes such as Skywalker sound, Industrial Light and magic etc.

    With great respect!

...'cause, AFAIK, no other Company has this wonderful feedback with their costumers... and, of course!, for the "WONDERFUL Instrument" they've gave us to write music!!!

So... more more and more applause...!!!
    Bravo!!! ...and... Grazie! [[[:D]]] [[[:D]]] [[[:D]]]

  • Yes - I totally agree with you all.
This company rocks (service, quality, service and, eh - quality [;)] )
    Herb rules !
(not to forget all the other good souls, especially the musicians..)

  • I can only agree with all of the above. Herb has been a massive help to me with several of my projects, and VSL has the best customer service of any company I have delt with ever - and I'm a real hard ass about customer service, believe me! Just ask the bloke that fixed my car (or didn't as it happened).

    Well done guys

  • As a musician who is able to play a complete orchestra – alone – at home – at 02:00am – in a small room – every style – without breaks… well, I must say, that’s heaven on earth!
Thank you, Herb, for so many happy hobby-hours you have given me with this wonderful possibility. And it looks like VSL will increase, …ease, …ease, …ease, …ease, …
