  • Whats next after Pro Editon??

Its probably premature, but I'd love to hear more details about whats planned for the next edition after pro. More perf leg?? Other additional inst. ?? I vote for at least 3 dynamics in all p leg strings p,mf,f (including sordino). Also would LOVE expressivo strings with a faster attack sampled p leg style. SI strings has some great expressivo strings but the attacks are very slow. Once we have dyn crossfade between dynamics for p leg samples, as EXS already does, I will use the p leg and p leg grace stuff much more than any of the straight multisamples. Thats already the case in many instances.

  • I'm sure the list will be long and promising. [:)] ... Herb?

In addition from more instruments in new levels of detail you can expect some pretty exciting developments from us, enhancing the degree of realism of sampled orchestral performances in an unprecedented way, while still maintaining the artistic and musical flow of working.

Watch this space for official anouncements ...! [;)]

  • What's coming next?

    Maybe a little vacation? [[[;)]]]

OK, OK, that's not what you want to hear.

The Pro Edition includes some new performance stuff for the solo violin:
    Performance detaches, and performance spiccati.

These styles are in production for all existing instruments.
It's the same scheme like the legati, just different articulations.

We'll wait with producing more dynamics for ensemble strings legati.
The crossfade mode in EXS is very convincing, and I'm sure Giga 3.0 will be ready before we release the Symphonic Cube. (please, don't quote me on this [:)] )

Further more new performance stuff for the existing instruments, mainly performance scales.

And of course many new instruments and sections.

First the small string ensembles, here we already started recording.
When I first layered our solo violin I realized, how amazing options you get for expression and vibrato control issues.
So the small ensembles are not only usefull for smaller section sizes, it will give you also more sound control options, if you layer them with the larger ensembles.

Next week we start with the recordings of the large horn ensembles.
8 double horns. primary focus is to get a real huge sound.

    Further french oboe,
    a solo double horn
solo and ensemble brass with sordinos.
    and woodwind ensembles.

For the woodwinds I didn't know how much they are requested.
After first test recordings (simulating our performance legato mode), I decided not to hold back this instrument sections.

In the meantime we are also recording saxophones. First soprano and tenor saxophone. The focus (in the beginning) is primary on orchestral context. But we plan to expand the articulations also for Jazz and Bigband use.

And we also have a cool concert guitar in production.
One of our chief sound engineers studied concert guitar and his degree dissertation was about:
"The perfect sample database for guitar instruments"

I would say, I had no choice. [[[;)]]]

    There will also some surprises.
    One I share:

In July we will record a really unique instrument.
A kind of Lithophone with a tonal range over 5 octaves.

I didn't see it till now, but this instrument must be amazing.
It comes from Switzerland, and I will post some picts when we have it in our studio.

And not to forget: the solo viola and solo bass.

    best wishes
    Herb

  • Is that it? [[;)]]

  • Man I love this company! [:D]

  • For woodwind ensembles, we're mostly getting by with the older Miroslav or trying to set them up with solo instruments. What's needed are: flutes, clarinets, oboes.

    PA

  • Any plans to record a keyed fiddle?

    Herb,

Very cool! Are you planning to expand the articulation sets in the same way for the rest of the brass instruments as well?

    /Mattias

  • Of course,
we call them "performance portati" it's the pendant to the "performance detaches" of the strings.

    best wishes
    Herb

  • That's great and judging from what I've heard from the perf detache so far it will be a killer...! Ok, I wasn't specifying my question too well... The intention in my question was really biting attacks, stabs, shakes, rips and so on?

    /Mattias

  • Herb you've already surprised us with THAT list!!

Great to hear about the huge horns, and the saxaphones!!! (with performance tool legati it should be awesome).

Actually, its opened a floodgate in my tinking about the library in future.

Any chance way down the track or sooner, of ethnic instruments? The reason I ask is because the legato tool works so well, on legati and portamenti (eg the solo violin and ensemble violin port/legato are amazing).

This tool would be fantastic on whistle (think of fluid, haunting Irish melodies etc. Its used a lot in films). Yeah, thats what I'd like: whistle for legato performance, including portamento like you've done with the strings!

And, I can't wait for those horns!!!

  • Symphonic Cube "I"

the number at the end is vitally important.

The whole concept is based on three big cubes and there are the following emphases:

    1) The traditionell symphony orchestra,
the bigger part will be covered with Symphonic Cube I.

    2) Choir

    3) Modern and avantgarde playing techniques of orchestra instruments,
also the contemporary playing styles Matthias asked for.

    4) Ethnic instruments

    5) Historical instruments

The question is, what's is the main focus of "Symphonic" Cube II.
Will it be the "Choir & Ethnic Cube",
or the Historical & Modern Cube"
(also possible "choir & modern" or "historical & ethnic" etc.)?

    best wishes
    Herb

  • Herb, marry me.......... please? [:D]

  • Woooooooooooooowwwwwwwwww [:D]

Very pleased to "see" that - awsome!

Give me more of that! Very exciting indeed!!!!!

  • MADMAN ON THE LOOSE!!!

  • One Library to rule them all, One Library to find them, One Library to bring
them all and in the Darkness bind them. [H]

  • Wow, Herb. Looks like I made the correct choice in purchasing your library (Peter Alexander is building me another computer with First Edition as we speak). I cannot wait to receive it!

    Rob

  • Wow, that answered my question...! Herb, you guys are truly insane!! [:D]

    /Mattias

  • [:D] I'm certainly looking forward to all the future libraries...

but for now.. I'd just like to get my hands on the EXS performance tools that i paid for [:D]

    Herb,

The "Choir & Ethnic Cube" will be of great usefulness to those of us who make our livings in film and television. The addition of choir and ethnic instruments will be an excellent and much used addition to the Symphonic Cube.

This is truly an exciting new set of tools! Thanks again to the great VSL team for creating and continuing to create them.
