  • Mac Mini fo sampling questions

I’m a noobie to sampling so I’m taking my questions here to the experts!!

I have a project I’m producing starting with mostly midi mock up arrangements with synths and samples. I’ll also have guitar ,bass and drums. but mostly soft synths and samples(small pop orchestra 8-12 piece strings, horns, percussion etc).I won’t be doing mixing except to get a sound using mostly aux instead of Altiverb inserts on every track.

For budget reasons I have to start with my Mac Mini 1.66 , 60 gig 5400 rpm HD, 1 gig of ram .I’m going to upgrade to 2 gigs ram ,and thinking of upping the CPU to a C2D 2.0ghz and possibly a 7200rpm internal HD…. and of course positively.. external HD’s.

My 1st question. Will the clock speed and processor type bump benefit sampling? From what I’m reading the biggest spec advantage of the C2D over the CD is 64 bits to 32.If both of them added up don’t effect the sampling critically I may stay with the 1.66 CD…..

    Q #2.
Will the faster boot disc(7200 over 5400) be necessary? Will the size matter? They are available from 60-300gb.I’m looking at a 100gb one for around $100 which is reasonable.

    Q#3
I know this is subjective but I’m trying to get a better feel for the my best buy 1st library. The project is arty pop rock . I’m leaning in a “George Martin Magical Pepper” direction with modern synth sounds and arrangements. I’d love to get some intimate orchestral sounds(solo) but the more variety of instruments the better. So far The SE sounds like the ticket in variety. Are there enough articulations to get intimate? My budget range for the library is around 1k.

    Thanks for all your help
