Ive read a lot about Jerome's mac minis on here. My company is looking to add a Vienna rig to our composing set up. Our goals are to have sounds easily and quickly accessed so we can write orchestral pieces on a very quick turnaround. Of course, stability is also crucial.
Are there others working in a similar environment with the full Cube running succesfully? right now im leaning towards going with about 5 minis and 1 mac pro with the samples spread something like this:
MacPro G5 2.66GHzx2 4MB RAM
Orchestral Strings I
Orchestral Strings II
Mac Mini 1.83GHz 2MB RAM
BrassI
Mac Mini 1.83GHz 2MB RAM
Winds I
Chamber Strings
Mac Mini 1.83GHz 2MB RAM
Solo Strings
Winds II
Mac Mini 1.83GHz 2MB RAM
BrassII
Harps
Mac Mini 1.83GHz 2MB RAM
Percussion
Appassionata Strings
My thinking here is to keep Orch Strings I and II on a machine together so as to use the full strings preset. (Am i correct that they would have to be on the same computer to do that?). I wanted to get a macpro for that because Strings I and II will probably get the most use... I am then pairing librarys based on how much i anticipate using them....e.g. i put chamber strings with winds I since i dont really envision using chamber strings very often. I dont know..any thoughts?
Audio routing back to the main sequencer computer is not an issue as all of our tracks are mixed on a sperate pro tools rig...
so, what working alternatives there to Jerome's mac mini setup...is anyone doing that?
im also trying to convince my boss that we should hire someone to set up this rig for us....so i'd like to know if there are any experts javascript:emoticon('[:D]')

Thanks,
Chris
