Hello everybody,
only some weeks ago I purchased the complete VSL package and I can work with it without any problems. I am a 47 year old arranger, composer, pianist and producer. Since nearly 15 years I work with the sampling technology especially focused on orchestral sounds. The audio demo of Peter Siedlaczeks library was performed by me. Of course,
VSL is the best libraray ever released, no doubt about this. Believe me that years ago I told Siedlazcek to sample the CHANGES from one note to the next. The change is whats so important to make it sound real. This genius herb Tucmandl made it all now.
There is one thing I would like to discuss here, and I am interested to learn about other users opinion to this, and maybe Herb´s too, when he has got the time for it:
What I really miss, is the wonderful violins performance legato PORTAMENTO also as piano or mezzoforte. The portamento effect makes the sound so very realistic, and I find it a pity that this option is not available for piano or mezzoforte. I do not only use this effect for Gustav Mahler-like, "dramatic" playing, but I also use it for less dramatic, smaller intervalls like a whole or half tone very often. Exactly for those purposes, it would be great having it also in piano.
I was kind of dissapointed when I saw the articulation list of the PRO version, because I missed the "portamento piano" for the violins section.
Maybe I can somehow convince Mr. Tucmandl, that it would bring us a huge huge step forward in our goal to reach an even more realistic sound.
Its not difficult to perform so called "complicated" violin phrases with VSL. Somehow its much harder to bring "normal" and easy to play legato lines to life, with all their little "human" diminuendos and crescendos. I reach much better results with the forte legato and forte legato portamento sounds as only with the piano legato sounds alone. Thats why I think, that a piano legato portamento would be a big help.
